IIT Hyderabad and GRIHA Council Organises Green Tour; Check Details Here

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Hyderabad) had organised a ‘Green Tour’ on its campus on November 18, 2023. The tour was organised in collaboration with GRIHA Council (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) at IIT Hyderabad. 

The objective of the green tour was to raise awareness among the delegates on how to operate and build a sustainable building and the concepts of energy conservation, renewable energy, water saving and sustainable designs, among others.

It also showcases the newly built phase 2 buidings of the IIT Hyderabad campus with several campus blocks aspiring for the prestigious GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) Green Building Rating.

The tour included interactive sessions with the task’s modeler and green structure advisor, alongside specialists from GRIHA Council. The delegates learnt about the operations of a sustainable building and gathered knowledge on how to maintain and develop sustainable building mechanisms.

More than 50 participants, including architects, engineers, students, and other professionals, participated to experiment sustainable designs. The tour is also a prelude to the 15th GRIHA Summit in New Delhi on November 23 and 24.
 

IIT Hyderabad director BS Murty exclaimed, “With over 50 participants exploring our campus's eco-friendly designs, IITH's imminent Phase-2 completion aligns with aspirations for GRIHA Green Building Rating. The tour, a precursor to the 15th GRIHA Summit, epitomizes IITH's dedication to sustainable practices. It is essential for our youth to know the significance of energy conservation, renewable energy, and water-saving techniques. IITH's pledge to not only contribute to the green building discourse but also actively cultivate a sustainable society, positioning the institution as a beacon of environmental responsibility.”
 

Shabnam Bassi, deputy CEO-cum-secretary and treasurer, GRIHA Council, said , “At GRIHA Council we believe in the old adage ‘what gets measured, gets managed’, and attempt to quantify aspects such as energy consumption, waste generation, renewable energy adoption, etc. so as to manage the same to the best possible extent."
