New Delhi: IIT Delhi rejected 132 PhD seats for students from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Castes (OBC), according to information from the Ambedkar, Periyar, Phule Study Circle (APPSC) at IIT Bombay.
Of 4,226 applicants from these categories, only 203 were selected for the PhD program in the 2023-24 academic year. Four departments at IIT Delhi did not admit any student from the reserved category, and only two female candidates were selected.

Number of ST Applicants at IIT Delhi
The APPSC shared data questioning why the government and the judiciary aren't holding these institutions accountable for violating students' constitutional rights. Despite establishing an SC, ST cell and a mandate to oversee the reservation policy, IIT Delhi is still not adhering to it.
The student collective pointed out that 25 departments did not admit any ST students the previous year. 9 departments of IIT Delhi didn’t accept any students from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. 11 students were selected out of the 334 ST applicants.
