IIT Delhi and Flipkart

New Delhi: The IIT Delhi has recently begun a partnership with online shopping portal Flipkart. The two institutes signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for research grants to the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT). The collaboration aims to make personalized recommendations for shoppers better and more accurate to user profiles.

As per IIT Delhi, Flipkart will hold up its end of the MoU by funding research grants and sharing market insights with FITT. This will help FITT finely tailor the user segments used in online shopping based on shopping behaviour, demographics, and social interactions.

With techniques like Graph Neural Networks (GNN), FITT will create a comprehensive graph of user activity and help develop different types of personas for different users. The collaboration will also include joint research projects, conferences, and seminars.

Flipkart’s Chief Data Scientist Mayur Datar spoke at the event, highlighting Flipkart’s focus on creating more enhanced online customer experiences by using solutions driven by data. Datar also talked about the potential of recommendations based on user personas and how such a step can help simplify online shopping for all those who indulge in it.

IIT Delhi’s Prof. Sayan Ranu also talked about the importance of joining research with real, marketable products. He said that the joint project had the ability not only to make mechanisms for better product recommendations but also to push the envelope for new directions in large-scale machine learning
