Those interested in applying to the Joint PhD program 2024 must submit their Expression of Interest (EoI) to apply for the program of their choice by March 17, 2024. One person can apply to a maximum of two projects.

IIT Delhi Collaborates with University of Queensland, Australia for a PhD Program

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has partnered with the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia for a PhD programme. 

Applications for the program are open until March 17, 2024. The shortlisted candidates will be intimated by April 24, 2024. Apply to the program at the official website, uqidar.org. You will have to submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) for the program that interests you most, either from the official website or the direct link below.

What Will Be the Outcome of the IIT Delhi x UQ PhD Program 2024?

The UQ-IITD Joint PhD Program will take place through IIT Delhi’s Research Academy. Those who finish the program will be given the PhD from both institutes. The program will be inclusive of fellowships, relocation support, and research travel grants, according to IIT Delhi. 

What is the Program Structure of the UQ-IITD PhD 2024?

The program is open to students from all over the world. For Indians and other international students, the program will spend their first year at IIT Delhi, and complete another year (or more) at UQ. They will then finish their studies back at IIT Delhi. 

Vice versa, Australian students will start the program with a year in UQ, complete a year (or more) at IIT Delhi and then return to UQ for the remainder of their studies. 

What are the Eligibility Criteria for the UQ-IITD PhD Program 2024?

The minimum academic eligibility required for admission to the program is given in the following table:

Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology • CGPA of 6.50 on a 10.00 point scale • Aggregate percentage of 65% • First Class (wherever awarded) • CGPA of 6.00 on a 10.00 point scale • Aggregate percentage of 60% • Minimum 55% in other academic examinations No requirement. However, a high score in GATE, UGC-NET,CSIR,ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE will be given due consideration.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology • CGPA of 8.00 on a 10.00 point scale • Aggregate percentage of 80% • First Class (wherever awarded) • CGPA of 7.50 on a 10.00 point scale • Aggregate percentage of 75% • Minimum 55% in other academic examinations No requirement for candidates from CFTI’s. For others a High score in GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE.
Master’s Degree in Sciences • CGPA of 6.50 on a 10.00 point scale • Aggregate percentage of 65% • First Class (wherever awarded) • CGPA of 6.00 on a 10.00 point scale • Aggregate percentage of 60% • Minimum 55% in other academic examinations High score in GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE.
M.B.B.S./B.D.S/M.D.S./B.H.M.S • CGPA of 6.00 on a 10.00 point scale • Aggregate percentage of 60% • CGPA of 5.50 on a 10.00 point scale • Aggregate percentage of 55% High score in GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE, Any national level examination for graduate studies.
Master’s Degree in Arts or Humanities • CGPA of 6.50 on a 10.00 point scale • Aggregate percentage of 65% • First Class (wherever awarded) • CGPA of 6.00 on a 10.00 point scale • Aggregate percentage of 60% • Minimum 55% in other academic examinations High score in UGC-NET, CSIR.

Other than the academic qualifications, you also have to meet the English language proficiency requirements set by the Research Academy. If you have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree taught in the English medium in the last five years, you qualify automatically

However, if your degree was taught in a medium other than English, you have to fulfill the below requirements.

There are also research preparedness criteria that you must meet to be duly eligible for the course, including:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with completed courses that aim to develop research skills;
  • A complete supervised research project that includes an individually graded written report;
  • Scholarly papers involving a substantial contribution as an author, appearing in recognised academic journals or in volumes published by recognised academic publishers;
  • Research or technical reports prepared for industry, government or business, which adhere to the broad conventions of academic publishing (i.e. contain an up-to-date review of relevant literature, a description of relevant research methods and an evaluation of results, etc.) and which identify you as a significant contributor;
  • Demonstrable industry or work experience where you can demonstrate that you have planned and executed a project, working with a high level of independence.

How to Apply for the UQ-IITD PhD Program 2024?

Step 1: Visit the official website at uqidar.org.

Step 2: Click on the “Apply now” tab.

Step 3: If you’re Indian or from anywhere except Australia, click on “How to apply (i-students)”. If you’re from Australia, click on “How to apply (q-students)”.

Step 4: Select the program you are interested in and submit your Expression of Interest (EoI). You can apply for upto two projects. 

Step 5: If your EoI is shortlisted, you will also have to attend a personal interview and a written exam.
