IIT Delhi and AFMS Inks MoU for Joint Research and Training Initiatives

New Delhi: The IIT Delhi and Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research and training initiatives. The partnership aims to launch a joint PhD program for interested candidates.

Using IIT Delhi's biomedical research ecosystem, the collaboration aims to develop technical expertise to tackle several medical issues, including the rehabilitation of amputees. The partnership was signed on April 22, 2024, by Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, and Prof Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi.

The MoU aims to facilitate joint efforts to address healthcare challenges specific to soldiers across various terrains. Additionally, the agreement forms various collaborative initiatives for the institute. Such initiatives include faculty exchange programs, joint academic activities, and the establishment of joint PhD programs. 

The partnership's objective includes research and innovation aimed at developing innovative medical devices and solutions for the unique needs of serving soldiers. 

Lt Gen Daljit Singh stated that AFMS aims to deliver top-notch medical care to soldiers, highlighting the significance of partnering with prestigious institutions like IIT Delhi. Prof. Rangan Banerjee spoke about the potential of the MoU to drive research and training endeavours beneficial not only to the nation but also to the Armed Forces.
