IIT Bombay and Blockchain For Impact will jointly create accessible and cost-effective healthcare technology in India. IIT Bombay will receive USD 900,000 over three years for the same.

New Delhi: IIT Bombay and Blockchain For Impact (BFI) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 15, 2024. BFI and IIT Bombay will work together on innovating public healthcare solutions in India. IIT Bombay is BFI’s latest addition to the BFI-Biome Virtual Network Program.
As a member of the BFI-Biome, IIT Bombay will receive USD 900,000 from BFI over three years to innovate and develop accessible, scalable, and cost-effective healthcare technology. The BFI-Biome also includes institutes such as IIT Kanpur, BITS Pilani, and IISc. All these institutes will be able to use the BFI-Biome virtual network to ideate on some of India’s biggest healthcare issues. BFI will also work with each institute on healthcare solutions that can work for India and other countries in the Global South.
The MoU signing event was signed by Dr Gaurav Singh, the CEO of BFI, and Director of IIT Bombay, Subhasis Chaudhuri. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri said, "IIT Bombay has always been at the forefront of innovation and this collaboration exemplifies our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge research to address pressing societal challenges.”
He also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “By joining forces with Blockchain for Impact, we aim to accelerate the development and deployment of healthcare innovations that have the potential to transform public health outcomes in India and beyond."
