The course is one of UNICEF India's major objectives in its ongoing Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH) initiative, which focuses on the sustainable use of technology in healthcare services. The representative for UNICEF India, Cynthia McCaffrey, spoke on similar lines at the launch event. “The digital health course…builds on India’s commitment to promote digital innovation in the health system by equipping healthcare professionals with cutting-edge skills and leveraging digital technologies,” she said.

McCaffrey also talked about the larger implications of the course. She stated, “The course catalyzes innovative solutions, strengthening healthcare delivery across the country, helping accelerate reach to the last child. The transformative journey we embark on is focused on equity, its success will not be gauged by the technologies we employ, but by the impact made on the lives of every girl and boy, and of the communities that we empower,” she added.

Director of IIHMR Delhi, Prof. Sutapa B. Neogi, spoke about the need for trained digital health professionals in India. HE said, “Many health professionals lack the necessary training and education in digital technology to effectively utilize digital health tools and navigate the complexities associated with its implementation.”

The course will help optimize healthcare in India. According to Prof. Neogi, “By equipping healthcare professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge, this course will enhance their competence to adapt to the digital era and optimize healthcare delivery systems across India, particularly in underserved communities.”
