When you first came to Suresh Gyan Vihar University, what was your vision for the university? What changes do you see now?

“We make use of Innovative methodologies of Teaching and learning”

When I joined this institution in 2003, it was an affiliated College from the government university. But Being a college, we have not so much freedom to Innovate courses and teaching-learning methodologies. Later in 2008, we became a Self-Financed University with a Vision to create a mark at the global and national levels through academia, research, and technology-based training and innovation. Since then, we are excelling in the education sector, using Innovative methodologies of Teaching and learning. Due to such efforts, we receive NAAC ‘A’ in the First Cycle. My experience since I joined Suresh Gyan Vihar University thus far has been unique. I have learned and experienced so many new things in such a short period, and it has gone by so fast. I am still discovering all the opportunities that the university offers me.

Being the Principal of Applied Sciences, how do you plan activities and programs to enhance the skills of the students?

“We plan activities which focus on the holistic development of students”

We include Co-curricular like sports and collegiate activity and technical activity like the development of Laboratory technical Skills, Problem-solving and Critical Thinking Skills, Communication Skills, Team Skills, and Acquisition and Management Skills. Our teaching-learning methodologies include rigorous Summer internship, Industrial Training, and Project-oriented learning in addition to classroom teaching.

How is Applied Sciences different from the other professional courses?

“The best way to learn applied sciences is through practical implementation”

Applied Sciences is the field where you learn the things that can be performed practically; that is what has its applications and applies to the real world. In Applied Sciences, we offer various advanced and Application based courses. These courses include Biotechnology, Virology, Microbiology, Forensic Sciences, and Biomedical Sciences. These courses are research-oriented and the most demanding course in the world.

How do you ensure that students get proper exposure to practical learning?

“We put emphasis on practical learning”

In our curriculum, we have innovated many methodologies, which give continuous and rigorous practical exposure. We provide more weightage to practical labs than theory papers in the syllabus. We have a research-oriented lab project each semester, Summer/winter internship opportunities in industries, and regular National and International Instrumentation workshops/ conferences.

Our laboratories are continuously upgraded with new technologies and have several National and International Collaborations.

What do you think your role and responsibilities to the university and the students are?

“A healthy and a budding environment help students reach their vision”

Being a School Principal and a university leader, I have to Guide for better Teaching and Learning in the university. There are endless responsibilities which I can give but most important is Shaping a vision of academic success for all students, creating a healthy learning environment not only for students but also teachers, and cultivating leadership in others.

What is the future scope in Applied Sciences for students?

“There is a huge demand of health professionals in the coming future”

We are running different Career Oriented Courses in Biotechnology, Virology, Microbiology, Forensic Sciences, and Biomedical Sciences. There is an immense possibility of getting jobs in these fields as the demand is growing in India and abroad. It is estimated that in the coming future, 24000 health Professionals in the field of biotechnology/microbiology /virology/Biomedical Sciences of top skill are required in India. It is as per the survey made by the Human Resource Development Ministry.

What is your approach to make a healthy environment for your students?

“With diversity comes a unique opportunity for students and teachers to learn from each other”

The University campus is filled with students of many different backgrounds and a wide variety of learning approaches. Faculties in the Department and university are charged with creating a comfortable atmosphere for these increasingly diverse students. Creating welcoming learning environments for our classrooms today requires forethought and intentional strategies. To create a welcoming, Healthy, and learning environment in the university, we focus on developing a positive relationship between students and teachers, implementing effective teaching strategies, and project and internship Based learning methodologies. 

What approach do you have for placement of the students of your department?

“We incorporate various strategies to help students prosper”

To make the students job-ready, certification programs are organized by the departments. Students are also provided with aptitude training, Resume writing practice, mock tests, and mock interviews. The final year students undergo technical training conducted by industry personnel. Besides, we are promoting Entrepreneurial aptitude in Students through our Biotech Business Incubator Centers to become a successful entrepreneur rather than Job Seekers.

What do you think the major focus of your department should be for the next 5 years?

“We want to become an institute of excellence in the upcoming years”

In the next five years, we are looking towards the high demand for highly skilled health professionals in the field of Biotechnology /Virology /Forensic Sciences; the department will focus on the following Targets 

  • Facilitating development of a more competitive infrastructure base in University for growth and improvement of Biotechnology/ Virology products and processes .
  • Creating a pool of highly skilled manpower in Biotechnology/Microbiology /Virology /Forensic , by skill development programs and value addition measures.
  • Promoting Industrial research and innovation in Biotechnology./Virology 
  • Facilitate Entrepreneurship Development in Biotechnology/Applied Sciences by providing support in support and logistics in technology transfer, business guidance and capacity building support.
  • Facilitate more Funded research Projects in Department ,which will help students for developing research oriented outlook.
