BITS Pilani Records Impressive Placements Despite Industry Challenges; Places Over 3000 Students

New Delhi: Despite significant reductions in hiring and challenging global economic conditions in 2023, BITS Pilani, which includes the BITS Hyderabad campus, have successfully secured placements for over 3,000 students. 

Regarding salaries, the BITS Pilani recorded the highest domestic annual package being offered at INR 70 lakh. Over 600 students were placed with salaries exceeding INR 30 lakh, excluding international job offers. 

According to Balasubramanian Gurumurthy, Chief Placement Officer for India & Dubai at BITS Pilani, the university's average salary recorded a substantial increase of 13% compared to the previous year, reaching INR 20.9 lakh from INR 18.48 lakh. 

The median salary for BITS Pilani exhibited growth of 12.5%, reaching INR 18 lakh in contrast to INR 16 lakh last year. The BITS Pilani placement season commenced in August 2022 with various pre-placement offers (PPOs) for summer internships.

Following the placement data, 318 students secured PPOs from prominent companies like Microsoft, Google, Bloomberg, Uber, DE Shaw, NVIDIA, hamsung, Salesforce, Wells Fargo, and others.

For this year, there was a remarkable surge of over 50% in the highest monthly stipend when compared to the internship season of 2021-22. The stipend jumped from INR 2 lakh per month to INR 3.16 lakh per month. 

Additionally, the final Cost to Company (CTC) resulting from pre-placement offers witnessed a substantial boost, rising from INR 45 lakh per annum to ₹60.75 lakh per annum, reflecting a 35% increase.

Apart from prominent industry giants like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Visa, Adobe, Cisco, Uber, and Sprinklr, several flagship companies conducted extensive hiring. The core manufacturing sector also displayed optimism, with companies such as General Electric, Wabtec, Dover, Volvo Commercial Vehicles, Sona Comstar, TATA Technologies, etc.

Emerging roles such as Supply Chain Management garnered significant demand, with Micron offering INR 23 lakh to manufacturing sector students. Electronics sector displayed a strong presence, with Qualcomm extending over 100 offers across various campuses, and several other leading enterprises making double-digit hires. 

The prevailing trend during the season revolved around management consulting positions, as evidenced by Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Co., and McKinsey & Co. presenting front-end consulting opportunities to undergraduate students.

A total of 574 distinct companies have visited and recruited students from BITS Pilani, marking a significant 15.7% surge compared to the previous year. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the prevailing economic challenges, he said.
