New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur's new registrar was selected on Tuesday and is Captain (ret.) Amit Jain. Jain formerly worked as a senior advisor to the Indian Navy at INS Angre in Mumbai, according to a statement from IIT Kharagpur.
“We extend a warm welcome to Captain Amit Jain (retd) as the next registrar of IIT Kharagpur and anticipate his capable leadership, insightful suggestions, and encouraging encouragement in changing this institution for its long-term goals,” said IIT-Kharagpur’s acting director Saswat Chakrabarti.

"It is acknowledged and sincerely appreciated that Dr. Tamal Nath, the departing registrar, provided such exceptional services," he stated. Jain was in the Navy for three decades, serving in a variety of capacities, including executive officer, operations officer, and navigating officer. As the commanding officer of the Indian Navy's INS Dwarka Okha in 2019, he was also in charge of the administrative logistics for ships.
