They provide a distinctive programme that is:

  • Comprehensive in its coverage of themes and world regions. They offer multiple courses relating to peace and security, international political economy, human rights, migration and, global environmental issues, among many others. Our courses cover all world regions and/or relations between regions.
  • Based in 21st Century IR: the program is distinguished by its emphasis on transnational processes and institutions. It draws on interdisciplinary insights and is committed to a broad range of theoretical and methodological approaches within the discipline of International Relations.
  • Research-led:  large international teaching staff consists of committed researchers who draw on their own work to teach how to do empirical research and develop theoretical insight. The program explicitly reflects on the relationship between academic work and political practice and includes courses co-taught by academic staff and policymakers. 

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students should have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized research university;
  • Students should have at least 3.0-grade points.
  • Submission of GRE scores report.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Graduates of Indian central, state, or leading deemed and private universities.
  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum cumulative 1st division or better across all years of their studies.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, tests required to study in the Netherlands, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

International Relations studies the relations between, beyond and across states. As such it is engaged with world affairs and tries to theorise the complex phenomenon of global politics. It goes beyond the exclusive domain of nation states and includes non-state actors such as (social) movements, corporations, and advocacy groups. International Relations increasingly tries to include the challenges of today’s world such as human development, terrorism, (gender) inequality, and climate change.


You will join the only master's programme in the Netherlands to offer five unique specialisations within the field of international relations. With a broad curriculum and flexible design, the Master’s degree in International Relations allows you to tailor your degree to suit your career goals. Five specialisations are available, each with their own thematic focus, and each with further scope for customisation. You will be able to specialise in areas ranging from the European integration process to the global political economy to the pursuit of global justice.

Admission Criteria/Better to Have
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree in political science or in another closely related discipline (such as other social sciences, history, law and economics) are invited to apply
  • All applicants are expected to have a solid basis in the field of political science / International Relations, with a minimum of 30 ECTS earned during previous studies.

  • A bachelor’s degree from a research university that matches the level of a Dutch academic Bachelor’s degree, or demonstrate to meet the requirements for such a degree, including general academic skills;
  • the bachelor’s degree should be in the field of social sciences, humanities, law or economics
