Course Curriculum

8

  • The difficulty level is 9.5/10. It is very mixed; some courses are chill while others are so theoretical that it makes you cry from your heart just to pass it. They are very serious and organised in everything, so you need to be professional with everyone; if you take shortcuts, it won't work.
  • In my course, its mostly negative due to the mandatory courses and some illogical rules that we can't do both internships and theses outside the university while they allow other course students to do that.
  • Classes are very much dependent on the course, but it won't exceed 2 classes of 2 hours each per week.
  • The average number also depends on the course and can range from 10 to 300.
It is fairly low Indian students in my branch, about 7%.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to Northeastern University Boston, where I got an admission in their other branch but not the main one. I applied to Saarland University, Germany, and got rejected.
  • I believe both the universities where I got rejected were because of the number of applicants applying. To be very honest, the assessment committee that decides these things is not perfect in selecting applicants anywhere. So it is okay to get rejected for the greater good of yourself.
  • I really like Europe; I always wanted to stay there. After Germany, the only country where I would want to live was the Netherlands. And after staying here for a couple of years, it is just perfect.
  • The admissions process was rather simple. You pay 100 euros for the application; once you get admitted, the visa is handled by the university and you need to just go once to the embassy in Delhi to get your biometrics and that's basically it. The admission documents are rather the standard ones: resume, SOP, LORs, etc. The overall process was very smooth and we did not have any problems with it.
  • I applied for the 2023 August intake. I just completed my bachelors in June 2023 and was ready to start my masters. I had applied in Dec 2022 to this university and got my admit in Jan 2023.
The admission process took 8 months from the time I applied till the time I got my visa, and after I got my admit, I just had to wait for my visa, which I got in July 2023, 1 month before leaving for the Netherlands.

Faculty

10

  • This is also dependent on the course; if its a 300-student classroom, then its impossible for the professor to give attention to each one, but no one in the hall gets unanswered, whether it be through email or personally.
  • The teaching is top-notch; they don't spoon-feed you; it is up to you to be proactive and engage with others.
  • Yes some professors who are looking for TAs can ask students if they want to assist them in that course
  • Prof. Alexander Serebrenik, who was my internship supervisor and teacher for my Empirical Methods course, is a very senior professor and one of the nicest ones. He is a bit strict in his teaching and grading style but it is for the greater good of the student.

Campus Life

10

  • There is only one campus here in Eindhoven. All facilities are available and some unique ones that support innovation.
  • Campus is usually filled with many different events almost every week, and as there are so many things happening, its usually difficult to keep track of. But the biggest one is the momentum, which is the graduation ceremony that happens every year plus the intro week to welcome the new students and some parties on Christmas days.
  • The clubs are divided into 2 sections: study and sports association. All the clubs are cash rich so whatever they are organising is actually very good in terms of a college club. They have their own space, office, party place, and some even have their own cars & planes!

Part Time Jobs

  • I have no idea about the percentage but it is fairly easy to secure TA jobs.
The pay range is a standard 17.8 Euros/hour but it actually jumps up to around 21 euros/month after including the holiday bonus
There is a similar standard pay for any type of job on campus
The maximum hours are 16 hours/week for international students
It is actually moderately hard to secure and it also depends on your luck
  • There is a standard pay in the whole country so whether you work as a TA or in a grocery store, you will get paid the same. It is fairly easy to get off-campus jobs in the city and the process is usually very straightforward; either you directly approach them or you get referred by someone else. There is a portal of the university part-time jobs called TU/e Technificient where they post regularly part-time TA jobs or student jobs and you can directly apply for those. They apply for your work permit as well so you really dont need to do anything and just start working.

Placement

10

  • Almost 100 percent secure a job after their masters. The salary ranges from 3500 to 4500 euros per month.
  • Either the company they worked for before in their internship or thesis or through LinkedIn or networks in the university, the whole campus and the city are closely knit together.
  • ASML, Philips, Tesla, Uber, and NXP—all these companies are there in the country and recruit from the campus. The alumni network is very strong in these companies.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • There is a lottery system by the university where they provide housing to international students; luckily I got a place through that. The university has tieups with real estate in the city and has its own housing on campus as well. I got a studio for max 1 year in the city centre.
  • The rent was 1000 euros, but I got a rent subsidy from the government, which you can apply for, so in total I paid around 500 euros/month. The studio had everything from pots and pans to washing machines, heating, etc. So you really don't need to carry anything with yourself.
  • Till the time the housing lottery was not out, I was searching on Facebook and the internet. However, all the accommodations were really bad and expensive.
  • I would recommend only coming if you secure it through the university; otherwise, it gets really expensive and tough to sustain otherwise.
  • My accommodation was a 10-minute bike ride to the campus. As said, Indian students are spread out all over the city. It is not like a North American campus where Indians stay together but here in the Netherlands we like to stay with other nationalities; otherwise, whats the point in leaving your country and staying abroad.

Exams

  • Just IELTS, I got an 8 Band.
  • The standard documents which are required are SOP, LOR, CV, plus you need to fill out a document in which you need to prove that you have sufficient money to sustain yourself With that, there was also one more document in which you needed to explain and fill up all the courses you had in your bachelors and their contents, and if the university feels like there are some courses you have no idea of, you need to take them as free electives as part of your masters, which would then be mandatory for you to do.
  • No interview was needed.

Fees

  • It is a yearly fee for the first year, which was 17800 Euros in 2023
and then the next year you have the option of either paying it yearly or quarterly and the fees was 19300 euros in 2024
Please also note that the tuition fee is increasing every year.
  • The monthly expense is max ~1000 euros
    rent = 400-600 euros
    food: 150-300 euros
    miscellaneous-> 150 euros
  • The good part is that transport is your bike, which costs you nothing.

Scholarship

  • There is only one scholarship I know of; it is ALSP; rather, it is very rare to get it.
  • There is no eligibility criteria and you get automatically enrolled in the list of scholarships if you apply before February for admission that year.
  • I have got one friend who got that, so the full tuition fee gets waived, plus your rent is also waived off. So you just pay for your food for the whole of your masters.
  • I do not have an idea of how many students receive it, but it is actually very rare.
