- The Applied Computer Science course at the University of Bayreuth broadly conveys basic skills in both practical and theoretical computer science.
- It is enriched by courses in mathematics and application.
- In order to successfully solve complex problems with methods of computer science, a deeper understanding of the associated application subject is required.
- The following three main areas are offered as alternatives, one of which must be selected at the beginning of the course: bioinformatics, engineering informatics and business informatics.
- An important objective of the curriculum is to offer continuous training in programming and software development throughout the course.
- In phase 1 (approx. 1st to 3rd semester), the basics of computer science, mathematics and the chosen application subject are taught. This also deliberately includes modules that impart basic knowledge in the application subjects without a direct connection to IT.
- In phase 2 (approx. 3rd to 5th semester) interdisciplinary modules are offered in which the application subject and computer science are integrated. These modules require the basic knowledge that is taught in phase 1.
- In phase 3 (5th and 6th semester), interdisciplinary work is deepened and applied in practice. The project internship and the bachelor thesis play a key role here.
