Established in 1963, Aalen University located in Germany educates highly qualified specialists who are crucial to local companies. The University initially started as a state engineering school and in 1971 it transformed into a university of applied sciences and is currently renowned as one of the top German universities international candidates.

Aalen University ranks first in economics and third in mechanical engineering in Germany out of the 102 universities of applied sciences.

The university has about 5,700 students. Out of the total student population, 10% are international students from about 24 countries seeking to gain admission at Aalen University. The University has memberships of professional associations such as the European Association of Universities (EUA), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors' Conference (HRK). Today the institution boasts that over 50% of business and management graduates and 60% of engineers in Germany are from the University.

The university is one of the most research-extensive universities of applied sciences to study in Germany offering courses through five faculties including, chemistry, electronics and computing science, management and business sciences, mechanical engineering and material technologies and optics and mechatronics. It also has a state pilot program for master craftsmen and technicians to study known as “Weiterbildungsakademie” The institution has a number of partnerships with more than 100 universities and companies across the world that provide internship opportunities and practical experience.

Campus

  • The campus of Aalen University is situated in the East Württemberg.
  • Baden-Württemberg is a geographically and economically attractive environment being home to about 67,000 residents.
  • Aalen is close to many of Germany’s most famous sightseeing locations where students usually enjoy day trips like Stuttgart, Munich, Ulm, Augsburg, or Nuremberg.
  • Students can become a part of the various programs conducted at Aalen such as “General Studies” where a variety of guest lectures, training, general lectures in areas such as architecture, culture, history and many others are conducted.
  • The students can also be a part of sports clubs of the university.

Housing Facilities/ Residence

  • Students of the Aalen University can choose to live in student residences halls or off-campus accommodation. In either case it is the responsibility of the student to inform the University during the application process.
  • The University does not own any residence halls however students choose accommodation in student residence halls run by the Aalen Youth Association (AYA).
  • There are three residence halls available namely Carl-Schneider residence hall, Anton- Huber residence hall and Steinergasse Residence Hall.
  • Students can opt for private accommodation or flat sharing options in Germany available close to the University, the monthly rent for which ranges from 250 EUR to 500 EUR depending on the room amenities.
  • The Carl-Schneider Residence Hall has single rooms in an 11-room unit with shared kitchen, bathroom and showers.
  • Anton-Huber Residence Hall provides a single room in a 4 or 6-room unit with a shared kitchen, bathroom and showers.
  • Steinergasse Residence Hall is designed with single apartments.
  • The range of monthly rent for residing in these residence halls range between 250 EUR- 350 EUR.

Courses

  • Through their five faculties, Aalen offers an array of bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
  • The five faculties at the university include chemistry, electronics and computing science, management and business sciences, mechanical engineering and material technologies, optics and mechatronics.
  • Students get to choose from 22 bachelor’s degrees and 21 master’s degrees.
  • The University offers rare programs that are not common in other German institutions in disciplines like Optoelectronics/Laser Technology, Surface and Material Sciences, IT Security, Technical Editing, Plastics Engineering, Optometry and Audiology.
  • The institution also offers part-time programs for MS in data science and business analytics, vision science and business, etc.
  • The Aalen University of Applied Sciences is among Germany’s most research extensive universities of applied sciences.

Scholarships/ Financial aid

  • Aalen University does not provide scholarships in Germany for international students at its end.
  • Germany grants are awarded by the University once in a year to students of bachelor’s and master’s programs. The amount awarded is 300 EUR per month for two semesters.
  • To apply for this grant, students must complete an application that will be available by August and submit documents such as letter of motivation, CV, achievements, certificate of higher education, university degrees, any job or internship reference, etc.
  • International students who wish to apply for scholarships should check for such programs with the international relations office in their home country.
  • Some external scholarship opportunities are available to students as a result of DAAD funding.
