Factors To Consider For Self Analysis Of Mock Test
Attempt rate, accuracy rate, secured score, and rank are the factors you must consider while analyzing your performance in the mock test. This will help you gain a fair idea of how you should enhance your preparation for the actual exam day and how many more mock tests you should take.
Metrics to track your progress
The first thing you must do is either take a diary or an Excel sheet where you can note down the statistics of each mock you attempt. There should be 3 columns here:
Attempt Rate | Accuracy Rate | Percentile |
---|---|---|
It refers to the number of questions you attempted out of the number of questions the section had. | It refers to your standing vis-a-vis all other students who appeared for the mock. It shows how many people scored lesser than you. | It refers to the number of questions you got right out of the number of questions you attempted. |
It should be 3:1 per section. | It should be 3:1 per section. | It should be 4:1 per section and overall. |
Out of all these metrics mentioned, your primary focus should be sectional percentiles, your secondary focus should be on accuracy rates and your tertiary focus should be on attempt rates followed by overall percentile.
Why focus on sectional percentiles?
It can help achieve balance in the overall percentile when you find one section tougher than the other. In such a case even rightly answering half the questions can fetch you around 99 percentile. So even when your overall attempt rate is low in one section, say on section have Law Topics and Contemporary Issues, the percentile secured will be higher because of the difficulty level. This percentile is the best measuring stick for your improvement.
Why focus on accuracy rates?
As the base for the accuracy rate directly depends on the number of questions attempted, it nullifies the difficulty level and gives a true image of how well you performed in a said mock test. But remember it is of secondary importance since you could have got some questions right just by luck.
Why focus on attempt rates?
Though the attempt rate depends on the difficulty level of the exam, you should not simply attempt a good number of questions to achieve the sectional percentile you desire. Keeping the tertiary focus on these numbers will help you gradually push your overall performance.
How Should I Analyze My CLAT Mock Score?
To boost your CLAT PG Score, proper analysis of the mock test score is essential.
- Start with the questions that you marked but got wrong. Find out the mistakes that you committed.
- Check the questions that you wanted to attempt but could not trust proceeding beyond a point and hence left them unmarked. Find out what stopped you from proceeding.
- What are the questions you skipped and why? Were you running out of time or were the questions beyond your knowledge? Point out the questions and try to emphasize on improving your knowledge in the respective topics.
- The questions you solved and marked accurately are also important to analyze. Yes! They are the ones that got you the score and should be your strength on the exam day. Try to enhance your hold on the subject matters, estimate the time you required solving them, and do a comparative analysis of the related questions in your next mock test.
Overall it is recommended that you check the time you took to complete one section properly and the time taken for attempting the entire paper.
Topper Strategies
According to Manisha a CLAT PG topper, mastering the art of figuring out questions by keeping the difficulty level in concern can be a big game changer. If you can realize what should be attempted and what not considering the accuracy level, you can easily secure above 90+ percentile. I used to start with Sections A and B first followed by Section C ensuring I attempted a decent number of questions from each section. And would proceed from the easy to the difficult level”. Manisha stressed that after looking at the solution, she revisited the rationale in her mind before finalizing the answer. It also happened that I marked my answers wrong. Then I checked the solution to find out where exactly I made the mistake, and wherever I marked the answers right, I went through the solution to see if my method was correct.
