- The department of Plant Science offers programs that will train tomorrow's ecologists, botanists, agrologists, and biotechnologists.
- This M.Sc. in Plant Science requires approximately two years for completion.
- The program consists of two graduate-level courses, seminars, and a research project leading to a thesis.
- Students must complete a 45-credit course and research program established by their supervisor and advisory committee.
- The challenge of using the knowledge accumulated in the field of biology to answer these questions falls in great part to plant scientists. Subsequent career paths are varied but include work with government agencies, the private sector, or further graduate studies in a related field.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Applicants must hold a B.Sc. degree in an area related to the chosen field of specialization.
- The minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is 3.0/4.0 (second class–upper division) or a minimum GPA of 3.2/4.0 during the last two years of full-time university study.
Indian Student Eligibility:
- Applicants must hold a B.Sc. degree in an area related to the chosen field of specialization from institutions with a NAAC rating of “A”.
- The university degree, described above, must have been completed with a minimum standing of 3.3/4.0 or the equivalent, according to the grading scale on the transcript.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
Scores Required
- McGill Certificate of Proficiency in English or McGill Certificate of Proficiency - English for Professional Communication: Certificate of Proficiency awarded.
- GRE is not required but highly recommended.
- Duolingo English Test (DET) is not accepted for admission to graduate programs at McGill University.

- Statement of Interest: Statement of interest is one of the few ways to describe that faculty have to understand the student's motivation, the seriousness of purpose, and their level of commitment to the discipline.

- CV/Resume: including a summary of your academic background, professional experience, and other relevant activities (e.g., community involvement, volunteer work, etc.).

A four-year bachelor’s degree is typically required to apply for graduate admission at McGill University. However, the university also somtimes accepts applications from students who have completed a three-year bachelor’s degree on a case-by-case basis. However, meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program, as admission decisions are highly competitive and based on a holistic review of each students’s credentials.
