UOIT is one of the closest universities that offers the med lab program to where i live. The program is only offered at about 5 colleges/universities in Ontario. I also opted for the university over the college program as obtaining a bachelors degree will open more opportunities for myself in the future.
Course Curriculum :
I am currently in my first year of the program so many of my courses are generalized and not related to the field of med lab science. This allows students to get better prepared for the program as it lays the groundwork for future courses.
Placement :
In my fourth year of the program, we have a full years placement that the school sets up for us. There are many sites available that students can be sent to and the school tries their best to place you where you want to go (for example if you want a placement near home, the school will most likely give you a placement spot where you would like.
Fees :
Personally, for my program i believe the tuition fees for each year is around $7,500, and there is also auxiliary fees such as bus pass, gym membership and others that are added on top of that. Textbooks are a large added expense on top of tuition as well with some books costing up to $300 or $400 , with increasing prices each year.
Examination Structure :
Exams are usually spread out evenly to allow a decent amount of time to study the material learned in the semester. Though I find that some midterms are very close in proximity to exam time. Usually, exams are all multiple choice and around 100 questions of cumulative content.
Faculty :
Again, i am only in my first year so i have not meet many of the faculty in the school. Though the teachers i have now are mostly good, there is one in particular teaching biochem that i do not agree with their teaching and testing style and many complaints have been made from a multitude of students in that class.
