Life at QU

7.0 /10

The reputation and program were the main reasons I took it. I was also able to pursue my masters which helped me achieve my goals in the long run. I live alone for 2 years and that made me the person I want to be today.

Course Curriculum :

It's informative even though it felt somewhat dry when learning about the theory aspect of it. Being critical and learning about the hands-on type of learning is what I find most enjoyable. The courses ranged from different areas such as women and law, or international politics or even Canadian politics.

Exams :

I took the LSAT (law school entrance exam) and I scored a 165. In terms of testing, that's all I have taken.

Placement :

It seems very tight. Then again we are in a time when there aren't that many jobs for so many recent graduates. There should be implemented as mentioned before of possible job opportunities for students.

Internship :

No, my college did not provide an internship for this specific program. However, it would be ideal to have some sort of incentive in place so that recent grads know what their options are in this field.

Events :

We had many events they ranged from frosh week where students celebrated the whole weekend. There was St. Patrick's day, that was another fun one. Student events like Christmas parades or reading week were well documented. Kingston is very small and it's known as a student/university city so it makes sense that the events surround the students.

Fees :

There was a breakdown of the courses and then there were the books. If you wanted to be part of a team that had its fee. There was also a gym membership but that was broken down into our tuition. There was also health and dental covered as well as "petty change " being sent to small school affiliations.

Scholarship :

I had received a bursary for $4500.00 but I applied to that and it was considered an academic bursary based on my grades. I also received $10,000.00 which was part of my teaching assistant program.

Examination Structure :

Mostly it was essays. Some true and false and multiple choice. The exam structure was very basic. Usually, the students are given 2 hours to complete it or 3 depending on the course and the professor teaching the class.

Faculty :

The faculty was small, but I think its most important that it becomes diverse. Having different people with different experiences or people who have studied the area intense does have a huge impact on the way students learn.

Hostel :

I lived downtown, but it was a 10-minute walk to school. Residence seemed expensive and they forced students to get the meal plan, which made sense since you would only be buying cafeteria food. Living Downton gave you options and you didn't have to worry about roommates.
