Pratik Ranjan Yadav Review at University Of New South Wales [UNSW], Sydney | Collegedunia

UNSW : From dreams to Reality

This has been life changing and exciting. I became more independent, understood how to manage my time efficiently and how to strike a balance in life. I became more empathetic towards people, and got a new perspective by meeting new people.

Course Curriculum :

The course is updated every year and is as per industry standards. I will be starting research next Sem, however, it has ton of opportunities for research and funding is available in abundance.

Exams :

For UNSW, it's pretty forward. You need LORs, SOP, official transcripts and marksheets. That's pretty much it. Australian universities don't really consider GRE,GATE or any other standardized tests except IELTS/PTE. IELTS: 7.0 GRE: 297/340 ( not required) I did submit my SOP, LORs and CV. Although CV is optional. For SOP, be authentic and write your real story. Don't use old / outdated templates. For LORs, get it from HODs or from Professor who has good background like from IITs/ NITs as it does help.

Placement :

More than placement, they have career fairs and industry meetups, where Incan talk to hiring managers and network.

Internship :

It's just my second term and I will start applying for internships soon.

Fees :

I am on a fully funded scholarship. So, I don't pay anything. Typically. For masters, it's of 2 year duration and you have to complete 16 courses. Each course being 6 units. Every course cost you roughly 6000 AUD which means tuition is roughly 16 x6000= 96000 AUD and living expenses roughly 25000 AUD/ year on an average.

Scholarship :

I got Australia Awards scholarship which is 188,000 AUD for 2 years. It's an Department of Foreign Affairs scholarship. For this, there is a list of 19 universities across India, and only those could apply. You could find the list on Australia Awards website. I got nomination letter from Manipal University. I submitted 2 LORs, SOP ,GRE, GATE Score, Undergrad Transcripts, IELTS and finally an interview. Unfortunately, Australia awards has excluded India from the list for some reason and I am the last batch.

Faculty :

I am not too sure about faculty to student ratio. However, professors are really kind, supportive and goes out of the way to help you. They are pretty approachable and you have to book an appointment before visiting them. I really love Dr. Hamid, he is a senior lecturer and is a pioneer in the field.

Campus Life :

UNSW has more than 300 clubs and the campus is pretty happening. You literally have events everybsecond day and you will definitely find something you like. We have ARC ( student body), which organizes so many trips, picnics, tours, free food, movie nights, sports, etc We have 2 libraries, one is Main library and the other is Law library. These libraries are nothing less than an engineering beauty and are the best in every sense be it study spaces, sleeping pods, printing services, computers, wifi, etc. UNSW is carbon neutral and meets all its energy demands via solar energy . Campus has 24x7 wifi with great speed. We have Roundhouse, where all the events happen and is the perfect place to chill and enjoy and meet new people.

Hostel :

Accommodation is bit tricky in Sydney as it depends upon suburb. Its more expensive and difficult to get Accommodation near the uni or at the uni. Lately, rental price has increased by whopping 30-45% and international students are finding it reasonably difficult to find long term accommodation.
