Troy University?s ITP also offers an American Sign Language (ASL) minor, which can benefit any student?s chosen major, especially students majoring in nursing, rehabilitation, psychology, education and criminal justice. Students can become more marketable with ASL listed as a skill. TROY?s ASL minor consists of six courses of foundation ASL and basic knowledge of the profession of interpreting.
The College of Education also offers the Master Mentor Program as a dual track for nationally certified, experienced interpreters. Upon graduation, students who have pursued this track will receive a degree in interpreter training as well as a Master Mentor certificate. This program is also available to students as a continuing education unit (CEU) in a non-degree seeking alternative.
TROY?s faculty and staff are committed to supporting you throughout your studies. ITP courses can be taken on the University?s Troy Campus, through TROY Online or in a blended approach if you live geographically close to Troy, Alabama, and wish to take some courses online and some on campus.
Through studying within TROY?s interpreter training program, you?ll:
- Prepare to sit for national certification testing after graduation.
- Learn the importance of mentoring, giving back to the deaf/interpreting community and supporting the interpreting profession and its professional organizations.
- Prepare to work as interpreters in a variety of fields including medical, educational, legal, mental health, community and more.
- Be offered opportunities and encouraged to participate in offered opportunities.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Applicant must have graduated from an high school which should be equivalent of an American state high school
- Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 for unconditional admission
- Applicants with less than 2.0 GPA would require to submit SAT/ACT scores
- Submit English Language Proficiency requirements
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum score of 79 in iBT
- IELTS: minimum score of 5.5
- PTE: minimum score of 46
- Duolingo: minimum score of 48
- ACT: minimum score of 20 in English
- SAT: minimum score of 1050 with no less than 480 in Reading and writing score
