Master of Science [M.S] [Nurse Practitioner - Family Nurse Practitioner] From University of Rochester

The Nurse Practitioner programs (MS) at the UR School of Nursing are some of the best in the nation. It was the groundbreaking work of our founding dean, Loretta Ford, more than 50 years ago which led to the creation of the nurse practitioner role and changed the way health care is provided.

Nurse practitioner students who pursue the family specialty will provide primary health care for patients from infancy through older adulthood, and also provide women?s health care.

In this program, you?ll gain the skills to manage acute and chronic health problems, refer and coordinate care with specialists when needed, and counsel about healthy lifestyles. Family nurse practitioners approach individuals as part of a family system in the context of the community, and are particularly skilled at improving access to high-quality care for medically-underserved populations.

Graduates of the Family Nurse Practitioner program are practicing in community health centers, private practices, school-based health clinics, emergency departments, and urgent care centers.?
