PROVEN TRACK RECORD
Current students and recent graduates find teaching jobs locally, regionally, and nationally. Recent graduates have accepted positions in the Bethlehem Area School District (Pa.), Baltimore City Schools (Md.), Frederick County Public Schools (Md.), and Anchorage Public Schools (Alaska). Our graduates are highly sought after, and seasoned art educators often request IUP student teachers, as they are the best prepared!
PROFESSIONAL FACULTY
The faculty in the Art Education program are each internationally known and respected. They have had many years of experience teaching in public schools in numerous states and at all levels. They also maintain research projects that have been funded by the National Education Association and the National Arts Education Foundation. In addition, each faculty member is a practicing artist with interests in installation, drawing and painting, and new media.
FACILITIES
The Art Education classroom spaces are fully equipped with the latest in instructional technologies, such as SmartBoards, ELMO Projectors, and state-of-the-art multimedia presentation kiosks. In addition, the Art Education program houses and maintains the Dr. Howard Russell Resource Library, which consists of 2,000+ scholarly texts, journals, and multimedia references.
COMMUNITY
Art Education students become part of a community of artists, scholars, and educators. They have access to a wide variety of artist lectures, hands-on workshops, and art openings. They are encouraged to join the National Art Education Association Student Chapter, which organizes community art projects and works in conjunction with the University Museum, Indiana Regional Medical Center, as well as numerous community groups. They have twice been awarded the National Outstanding Student Chapter Award by the NAEA for exemplary service to the field.
THE FUTURE
The teaching of art has deep historical roots. Art Education at IUP is artistically driven, culturally relevant, and socially engaged. As a part of the Art Education program, you will study the past while you gain a comprehensive understanding of current theory and practice, which will allow you to form the art of the future.
