Bachelor of Science [B.S] (Sustainable Landscape Horticulture)
Field of Study:
$42,724 /Yr
All students who enroll in the Sustainable Landscape Horticulture program offered by University of Vermont complete the basic core curriculum for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), which includes communication and technology courses. In addition, students complete courses within the major, such as plant biology, ecology, plant and soil science, forestry, landscape design, agricultural economics, and small business management.
Internships and Research
Because our faculty interacts with professional landscape design firms, landscape management companies, as well as public and private gardens, there are many opportunities for off-campus internships where our students put skills to use, earn credit, and improve employment prospects. Students have worked at arboreta, botanical gardens, parks, garden centers, and nurseries to gain valuable experience and contacts.
As an undergraduate, you will also have opportunities to work with College and Agriculture and Life Sciences faculty doing research in campus laboratories, in the field at our 97-acre Horticultural Research Center, or in our state-of-the-art greenhouses. Students may also elect to join one of several clubs on campus for more experience.
Career opportunities
With a degree in Sustainable Landscape Horticulture, students may pursue a career in landscape design, contracting and management, urban forestry, owning and operating a landscaping or nursery business, or in garden center management. Students may also go on to work for state and federal organizations including local park and recreation organizations or as part of urban renewal projects, just to name a few.
