Thriving Campus life and Global opportunities at Boston University

In a nutshell, the admission process consists of IELTS / GRE --> Wes Course Evaluation --> Application --> Results. Here my IELTS, undergrad grades and strong application were the key things for my selection to Boston University. I started quite early to build my strong research-oriented profile for my master's in computer science. I come from a Mechanical Engineering background and did my research in computer vision, Predictive maintenance and implementing computer vision Algorithms in the Manufacturing sector. I presented my 1st research paper at the IIT BHU international conference in 2023 and submitted 2 more papers in international journals. We designed and built a Hexapod Robot with an innovation to resist the impact, Got selected for the Gujarat Council of Science and Technology and filed a patent for the design. I also hold one more patent with my professor during my undergrad for designing a welding machine for micro-welding. I highlighted all these in my resume during my application.

Course Curriculum :

There are 40-credit requirements for a Master's in Computer science. As an Internal student, we have to take at least 3 subjects, which makes us enrolled as full-time students. One can also take more than 3 subjects. BU has lots of Advanced courses like Advanced Programming, Cyber Security, Enterprise Cyber Security, Machine Learning, and a lot more to meet the market need for skilled workers.

Placement :

The Department of Computer Science at BU's Metropolitan College capitalizes on the trusted connections to the Massachusetts tech sector to encourage employers to hire BU students. BU has MET CS Job Boards featuring technical positions typically sent directly from employers for MET CS students. BU holds Tech talks and the MET career developments office offers career guidance and coaching. They help us to build our resume and cover letters for the job that we are applying for. BU has almost all tech giants as their employers like Google, Amazon, IBM, Meta and other startups etc. The average salary for a CS graduate is around $100,000 Pa. BU also provides a very good resource for Salary Negotiation.

Internship :

Recently I found an internship cum Part-time opportunity at 'Saxby'. It's a dining service within the BU campus. I got to know about this opportunity from BU's JobX portal. There was a 15-minute phone interview to validate my candidature. My task is to collect the customer feedback. I really love this as I get lots and lots of opportunities to interact with a diverse group of people. I'm paid $16 per hour and can easily cover my living expenses in Boston City.

Fees :

As I mentioned before BU does not offer any Financial Aid for international students and I decided to take a Loan and fund my education in the United States of America. I have availed a loan from HDFC Cedilla worth INR 78,00,000 with 11% interest. This covers my Tuition fee, Living expenses, Electronics etc. One also can search for summer internships and earn as a student or else work part-time or provide assistance to faculty research. There are plenty of options available to try out.

Faculty :

Campus Life :

Boston University offers a vibrant campus life with students from diverse nationalities, providing a global experience. The campus experience and infrastructure are top-notch, featuring well-equipped libraries and modern sports facilities. BU has an immunization drive for all of its freshers providing the best healthcare to its students and faculty. I almost every time spot Indians on campus and even all across Commonwealth Avenue. The community is very welcoming, with a substantial number of Indian students making it easier to connect with fellow countrymen. BU boasts numerous clubs and societies that cater to a wide range of interests. The university also hosts major fests like 'Splash', which showcases student organizations, and 'Global Music', adding colors to life. Apart from that I have also joined Technical clubs like Cyber Security Club, Artificial Intelligence Club and more.

Hostel :

I opted for Off-Campus accommodation as I felt that the on-campus accommodation was quite expensive. One can shortlist the best suitable accommodation from 3rd party providers like Amberstudent. In my case, the university already has compiled information on the type of stay and budget on their website. It was very much easy to find one and confirm my stay. I live just 15 min away from my college and the commute is very comfortable. It's good to search for accommodation as soon as possible because as academic month approaches the prices are high during the peak time. Indian groceries are pretty expensive but you can find plenty of grocery shops a lot on the streets. Our monthly grocery expenses are somewhere around $100. Utensils are quite expensive so it's better to buy from India and bring it here in the USA.
