Colleges Where I Was Accepted

Reason for choosing my college

  • The University of Strathclyde is a top school for my M.Sc. in Business Analysis and Consulting. Also, the curriculum was great; I did gain consulting experience during my degree, which gave me a fair exposure to how things work in the line of business analysis and consulting and what all challenges a professional consultant faces in their day-to-day.

Colleges Where I Was Rejected

Reason for Rejection

  • Majority of the time, the challenge was that most of the schools I was applying to didn't have a January intake, and I didn't want to wait until September to start my master's. Another challenge I faced was that I began my application for the January intake late.

Tips to enhance your application

  • If they accept you into their university, I believe they will appreciate you mentioning your ambitions and vision for the opportunity. Also, highlight real-life experiences and try emulating that in your application.

Admission Experience

  • Initially I wasn't very focused on the city I was about to live in, but when I had to choose between Belfast and Glasgow, for me the obvious choice was Glasgow, as it is a big commercial city with excellent work opportunities.
  • The University of Strathclyde has a higher ranking for my course. Alumni of the University of Strathclyde are doing exceptionally well in all industries. My overall university experience was great and life on campus was an experience of a lifetime.

Class Schedule

9

  • We usually had four days of classes, mostly between 9 am and 5 pm. Average class strength for lectures was between 60 and 80 students, but they were divided into smaller groups for any labs and interactive subjects we had, which were between 25 and 30 students per group. Honestly, my course had many Indian students, as it was a business science course. We had to do a lot of group assignments, which took most of our time—almost 3–4 hours a day.

Faculty

9

  • Faculty members were approachable, and we could always write an email to them or meet them 1-on-1 during their office hours. We had a few faculty members who were outstanding guides as well. There are few faculty who can guide you towards the opportunities; for references, we could always ask them and it also depended on the kind of job referral.

Campus Life

10

  • Strathclyde Union is a great place to start; there are activities and events arranged on a weekly basis as well. Before each festival, be it an Indian festival or a local festival, we always had an event planned at the union and outside as well. There was a huge International student community on my campus, which welcomed us all warmly.

Part Time Jobs

  • I was working part-time at a Burger King and was paid minimum wage, which was £10 when I started but raised to £11 by the next year. It wasn't very hard to get a part-time job, if you were open to working in fast food chains and restaurants, as most of the students had to work in such setups, as they could work 20 hours per week in these setups.
  • TA/RA/DA roles are usually dependent on strength and competition for those is always cutthroat, though pay is decent for these roles; it is a little over minimum wage, which students who are working part-time outside get. It is also dependent on your intake session. If you're someone who is enrolling in the September intake, you'll have more opportunities as compared to January intake students.

Placement

3

  • Job placement is tricky for international students; most of my classmates weren't able to secure the job of their choice. Despite the abundance of opportunities in the IT industry and IT-related jobs, job placement remains challenging for international students. If you have a technology or IT background, you're more likely to secure a job.
