Urja Mehta Review at Loughborough University, Loughborough | Collegedunia

The best one year masters experience

One year of new opportunities, meeting people from different backgrounds, new learnings and a very different teaching experience. I learnt a lot at Loughborough not only about my course but also about my field and what the future would look like. Even if I was struggling with mental health issues at times there were always resources available for me to speak to people and get the help I needed

Course Curriculum :

The course is extremely well spread out. There are three semesters, two include teaching semesters, and the last semester is dedicated to your dissertation, where you have to work alone along with your supervisor. All the courses are extremely relevant to the current scenario of Sports Psychology. The grading structure was quite strict for someone who completed their undergrad in India, the grading is quite hard. Unfortunately, we did not get as much industrial exposure but the research experience is great. We are provided with sufficient academic readings and sources to improve our knowledge over and above the PPTs that are shared in the lectures.

Exams :

-IELTS 7.5, Listening 8.5, Writing 7, Reading 7 and Speaking 8. Took the test only once. Interview: No interview, only one-page SoP as to why you want to join the course as well as write about relevant experience for the same, 2 LoRs from undergrad professors and 1 can be from work experience too, along with a CV.

Placement :

Students of my program are required to do the BPS OR BASES Stage 2 to acquire placements. Since any psychology field deals with people, the HCPC guidelines suggest you cannot work as a licensed sport and exercise psychologist without stage 2 training.

Internship :

NA

Fees :

Tuition fee: In the year 2022-23, when I went, it was 26 lakhs for the year

Scholarship :

NA

Faculty :

The faculty to student ratio was around 1 teacher to 70 students. the faculty was very accommodating and helpful. They are extremely approachable and help out whenever you have a doubt or query. Each student had a personal mentor who was a professor in case you have any problems related to the course or even in general. My dissertation supervisor DR. DANIEL RHIND was great, I genuinely did well in my dissertation only because of his help and expertise on the topic.

Campus Life :

Loughborough is a university town and hence you will only see students around so it can get a bit lonely during the holiday time. Although the campus life such as the events for students, the activities, sports and all is amazing. there is world-class infrastructure, from the on-campus accommodation to the libraries, WIFI, gym, reading and studying spaces. All are amazing.

Hostel :

I lived off-campus in a student accommodation called Student Beehive. I stayed in a one-bed flat, and I loved the privacy and the accommodation was great. I paid 200 pounds per week inclusive of all utilities, WIFI and laundry.
