I loved the atmosphere and general buzz of the uni, as well as it having a huge investment in the chemistry department with state of the art equipment and excellence for teaching and student support. The university as a whole has a great reputation for being a place that provides academically stimulating courses and tutoring that is internationally recognised as well as being an environment that is fun and that allows you to build yourself as a person through societies and sport as well as expanding your academic knowledge.

Course Curriculum :

It's very interesting and thorough and covers all the important basics in a lot of depth as well as delving into other areas of more specialised interest. It's an academically stimulating and challenging course, but it?s well supported through workshops and tutorials and is a very rewarding course to be taking.

Placement :

The york chemistry department is known to have one of the highest rates of students getting placements in a huge range of companies. This is something I hope to do in my fourth year which is another difference to other universities: having a placement in your fourth year allows you to develop more skills in the university environment before applying, increasing employability and chance of success in applications.

Fees :

The fees structure is termly payments for accommodation in the first year and also termly instalments of tuition fees.

Examination Structure :

The exam structure is good, with a balance of assessment through assessed workshops, group projects, individual presentations and practical assessments as well as just sitting exams, which themselves are spread through the year. This makes it less stressful as less weight is put solely on the end of year exams, and allows you to be assessed on other displays of your knowledge and skill.

Faculty :

The faculty are immensely supportive and will help in any way possible. There are many systems in place for you to get help from when you need it and they make you feel at home as part of the university.

Hostel :

First-year I lived on campus and found it so much fun. Being in a flat with other first years helped me make firm friends so quickly and I have really enjoyed living just across the hall from my friends. Sharing the space with a variety of people from different backgrounds made it a very interesting and fun experience. I had ensuite self-catered accommodation and this was perfect for me, as I have a lot of lectures so it's easier for me to make my own meals than to rely on set meal times.
