Malmo University is a public Swedish University founded in 1998 in Malmo, Sweden. MU provides high-quality education to more than 24,000 students enrolled in various UG and PG courses while 252 PhD Students with a working staff of over 2006 employees.
The European Commission awarded Malmo University with the ECHE (Erasmus Charter for Higher Education), it is given to higher education institutions in order to participate in the Erasmus+ Program.
Malmo university also contributes towards long-term sustainable social, economic, and environmental development. It is among one of the 37 Swedish institutions that joined the Climate Framework for higher education institutions and play a major role in the fight against climate change.
The main strategy of the Malmo for the year is to provide quality education to students so that they can develop the ability to evaluate knowledge critically and translate it into action.
 The University is one of the top institutions in Sweden and offers several courses under the undergraduate, graduate, research degrees in full time, part-time and distance mode. Malmo University Campus

Malmo University’s main campus is located in Malmo city, Sweden, the large part of the main campus was constructed on the grounds which earlier belongs to the Kockums shipyard. Malmo University has five faculties and they operate in several buildings mentioned below:
Faculty of Technology and Society: It is located near Malmö Central Station, in the building Niagara.
Faculty of Education and Society: It operates in the building of Orkanen, located near Malmö Central Station.
Faculty of Culture and Society: This faculty is also located in Niagara building near Malmö Central Station.
Faculty of Odontology: Faculty of Odontology is situated close to Triangeln in Malmo train station.
Faculty of Health and Society: The Faculty of Health and Society operates in the university hospital in Malmo.
Other facilities include:
  • The Library which student can access through a Multicard issued to him as a student ID card.
  • Wi-fi facility is available at university with the name called ‘Eduroam’ students can use It by creating an account.
  • Students can borrow technical equipment, such as a Dictaphone or a sound card after asking at ”Teknikutlåningen” in Orkanen.
  • Students can also book their separate study rooms.
  • Other IT support helpdesk.

Malmo University Residence

  • Malmo University provides campus housing facility, as well as the students, can prefer living off campus nearby the University too.
  • The University offers affordable and safe on campus accommodations for the students at Varnhem in Malmo.
  • The University has a dynamic and inclusive living environment and the University too offers timely arrangements on the activities for the students living in the University.
  • The University provides the dormitory rooms that are present in two buildings namely Celsiusgården and Rönnen International for the students to live comfortably.
  • Celsiusgården has 40 student rooms in 4 floors that are well-equipped and furnished. Shared kitchen, lounge and en suite bathroom on each of the floors are some common amenities. Bedding needs to be brought by the student. Rent of this accommodation is 3993 SEK per month.
  • Rönnen International has 9 floors- top 5 floors available for students. There are 27-29 large rooms on each floor. Common facilities include shared kitchen, lounge, balcony, and en suite bathroom on each of the floors. The rent of this facility is 4644 SEK to 5136 SEK per month for single rooms and 3024 SEK to 3246 SEK per month for double rooms.
  • The rents for both facilities areto be paid for 10 months out of the 12 months leaving the rent-free periods.
  • Besides the on-campus housing, the students can prefer staying in the apartments in Malmo which are advertised by Boplats Syd, a housing agency.

Malmo University Courses

  • The Malmo University offers several bachelors and masters degree programs through its 5 faculties that include: Health and Society, Culture and Society, Education and Society, the Faculty of Odontology and Technology and Society
  • The University offers 7 English taught bachelor’s degrees and 24 English taught master’s degrees.
  • There is one year as well as two year master’s degree programs.
  • Some of the popular bachelor courses include: European studies: politics, societies, and cultures, English studies, human rights, interaction design, advanced programming, children’s rights, etc.
  • Some of the popular master courses include: biomedical surface science, computational materials science, computer science: applied data science, education: educational theory, interaction design, etc.
  • The University has an ongoing process of a mix of teachings on campus and digitally for all the courses this autumn. The English-taught programs will be taught digitally only.

Malmo University Application Process

Malmo University admissions are open in the autumn and the spring seasons and have fixed deadlines for the same. Applications are welcomed from both EU and non EU students. The application process has been described below:

How to Apply?

Applicants for undergraduate and graduate programs must check their respective requirements carefully before applying.

Application Portal: Apply online through the national website universityadmissions.se

Application Fee: 900 SEK for non-EU students and no application fee for EU students.

Application Deadline: January 15

Admission Requirements: The major requirements for the admissions in the University include:

  • A completed application form
  • For admission to bachelor’s degree, the following documents must be submitted:
    • Completed upper secondary education and the transcripts for the same
    • Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL and IELTS)- English studies at upper secondary level at Sweden called English 6
    • Copy of the passport, in case of wrong names proof should be provided to the University.
  • For admission to master’s degree, the following documents must be submitted:
    • Certificates and diplomas of the completed degrees prior to the admissions
    • Transcripts of the completed degrees and courses with their grades
    • English proficiency proof- requirement of English 6 (different for courses)
    • Copy of the passport.

Malmo University Scholarships/Financial Aid

  • Malmo University provides scholarships for prospective master’s students who wish to study at the University and require financial aid.
  • The University does not provide any scholarships for students at the bachelor’s level.
  • The University provides for the scholarships to the master’s students who are required to pay the fees. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of the students’ performance, academic merits, etc.
  • The University offers a limited number of Master’s scholarships based on academic merit, motivation to succeed and experience. Details of the scholarship are as follows:
    • Eligibility Criteria: Must be enrolled to an English-taught master's program at the University.
    • Selection Criteria: Selection of students will be based on academic excellence, CV and social engagement ability.
  • Another scholarship known as the Swedish Institute Scholarship is offered by the government to the international students.
