Uppsala University offers full-tuition scholarships to selected students coming from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland.

  • The Global Scholarship is applicable to courses at the Masters level, which will start on August 30, 2021.
  • Students are selected on the basis of their academic talent.
  • This scholarship at Uppsala University does not cover living expenses, and students will have to bear that on their own.

Eligibility Criteria

If you wish to apply for the Uppsala University Global Scholarship, the following criteria must be checked:

  • You hold citizenship in a country that is not a part of the EU, EEA or Switzerland.
  • You have applied for a Masters programme before deadline with all the necessary documents.
  • You have given priority to a Master’s course at Uppsala while filling the common application form.

You may apply for any available program, except for the following which are not covered by the scholarship:

  • Masters in Religion in Peace and Conflict
  • Masters in Biology - NABiS Nordic Master in Biodiversity and Systematics
  • Joint Nordic Master's Programme in Environmental Law
  • Master's programme in Turkic Studies
  • Master's programme in Implementation
  • Transformative Learning and Sustainability or Master's programme in Biology

Whichever other programme you apply for, ensure that you meet the entry requirements for that programme.


Application Process

For programmes starting in August 2023, you must complete the Masters application between October 17, 2022 and January 16, 2023, at universityadmissions.se which is the official site for common university applications in Sweden.

  • The supporting documents and application fees must be submitted by 1 February 2023. You will receive an 8-digit application number.
  • While ranking the programme options in the Masters application, you must place an Uppsala course at No.1.
  • A separate online application must be submitted for scholarships, whose portal will remain open from 17 January 2023 to 1 February 2023, 11:59 pm CET. You have to fill in personal details and the application number you got from applying to the Masters programme, as well as which course you have opted for.
  • You must write and submit a motivation letter of 350 words which describes how you are a good fit for the scholarship.

You may apply for more than one scholarship for which you meet the specific eligibility criteria, but you will only be selected for a maximum of one.


Selection Process

As is the case for all Uppsala scholarships, you will not be considered on the basis of your financial need but on the basis of:

  • Your outstanding academic record
  • How compatible you are with the eligibility criteria
  • Your prioritising the University in the common applications
  • Your interest in the field of study, as understood from the motivation letter

Awardees will be chosen by a selection committee at the university, who reviews your programme and scholarship applications.


Grant Details

The Uppsala University Global Scholarship is awarded to talented international students who wish to study a Masters course in Uppsala University, Sweden.

  • These recipients will get full-tuition coverage, but not for living expenses.
  • The Masters programme applied for must be on campus and English-taught, based in Uppsala or on Gotland.
