McGill Faculty Major Entrance Scholarship is designed for incoming freshmen at McGill University. Domestic and international students who wish to study in Canada at McGill University are eligible.

  • The bursary is offered for the undergraduate program at McGill University.
  • Recipients will get 3000 CAD to 12,000 CAD that may be renewed annually.
  • A separate application must be submitted to be considered for the same.
    • This application will act as a collective application for any of the UG Entrance scholarship or bursary.

Students must apply online through Minerva (User-friendly web interface) with McGill ID number and PIN. Selections are based on academic background, test scores, LOR and personal statements.

Eligibility criteria for McGill Faculty Major Entrance Scholarship are listed below:


Application Process

After applying for admission application, students will receive a confirmation mail regarding the same along with:

  • McGill ID number
  • PIN used to log on to Minerva

Log onto Minerva and go to Applicant > Apply for Major Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship.

Provide all the necessary information along with other specific information given below:

  1. A list of school activities and community or volunteer activities or involvement for the last three academic years. (including athletic/artistic and other activities)
  2. An essay either on a contemporary or historical figure that influenced/inspired you or on a memorable event or experience which inspired you with a new outlook on life
  3. A one-page LOR that you have written – for yourself (in the third person)

Student supporting Documents *

  1. LOR: one academic and one activity-related.Letters should be typed on official letterhead stationery, duly signed and converted to PDF.
    1. It must be submitted directly by the referees to scholarships@mcgill.ca.
  2. Signed statement: It should indicate the size of the class and your class rank if your school provides such information. All documents should be provided on the school letterhead.

All the applications must be submitted online via Minerva, no later than midnight, Montreal time, on the deadline dates listed above. If the deadline falls on a statutory holiday or weekend, the effective deadline will be the next business day.

Note 1: If a school does not rank or class rank is mentioned on the academic transcripts. No need for such statements.

Note 2: All the transcripts, LOR, Test scores (IELTS, TOEFL), diplomas, etc become the property of the university. McGill reserves the right to revoke admission and financial support (scholarships), and registration in cases of any misrepresentation by the student.


Selection Process

Applications for McGill Faculty Major Entrance Scholarship will be reviewed by members of the selection committee at McGill University.

  • They will selects candidates based on their responses in the scholarship application.
  • Their academic scores, LOR, certificates, test scores all will be taken into consideration while making final decisions.
  • The finalist may be interviewed before the list of the recipients is announced.

Only recipients will be notified via the email address mentioned on the admission application.

The scholarship offer letter will be attached to the email in the form of a PDF. It is on McGill letterhead and includes a signature. It can be used for official purposes.

Note 1: Unsuccessful applicants of McGill Faculty Major Entrance Scholarship will be automatically considered for a one-year scholarship.

Note 2: No paper letters will be mailed to recipients.

McGill Faculty Major Entrance Scholarship is offered to students who wish to study in one of the top universities of Canada, McGill University. The scholarship is offered to students who wish to commence UG studies at McGill University.

A single application must be submitted to be considered for all entrance scholarships offered by the university. The interview may take place before the final decision takes place.
