Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarship aims to support academically outstanding graduate students undertaking full-time research education at one of the Universities in Alberta. The scholarship applies to research-based masters and doctorate programs offered by the following universities in Alberta:
Students must submit an application form along with the required documents to their department of their respective university to be considered for Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarship. The respective department will then nominate eligible students for the scholarship. Master students receive a scholarship worth $26,000(15.5 Lakhs) while doctoral students receive a scholarship of $31,000 (18.4 Lakhs).
Recipients of Tri-Council Scholarships (NSERC/CIHR and Vanier), China Scholarship Council and other external peer-reviewed award holders who also received Alberta Innovates GSS will get additional funding of $12,000 (7.14 lakhs).
The scholarship is renewable up to 4 years, depending on fulfilling ongoing eligibility.

To apply for Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarship, applicants must contact their respective departments in one of the universities mentioned above. The application form along with required documents must be sent directly to the department.

FGSR will review all submitted applications case-by-case for eligibility and completeness. It will then forward to the Graduate Scholarship Committee (GSC) for further process. The GSC will evaluate the applicants based on their excellence and strategic alignment in Platform Areas of scientific research important to Alberta.
These Areas are Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Nanotechnology and Omics; (Omics consists of Metabolomics, Transcriptomics, Genomics, Proteomics, and Regulomics) in and of themselves or which additionally support the innovation priority areas of Environment & Climate, Energy, Food & Agriculture, Fibre/Bioindustrial and Health.
Students who wish to pursue higher education in Canada at the University of Alberta may apply for Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarship.
Recipients must meet ongoing eligibility requirements to continue to receive the scholarship grants.
