How is the CUSAT fire and safety branch?

SJ
Sonal Jain Posted On : February 19th, 2021
CUSAT (2019)

BTech Safety and Fire Engineering at CUSAT is a lucrative branch with great career opportunities. Almost 90% of students graduate with a placement offer. But the career outcome of the institute is limited since it is not a mainstream branch. You may face problems in the future if you want to go for competitive examinations like GATE. Go for this branch, only if you are sure that you want a career in this field. Since not many institutes offer this engineering degree, the competition is less. It is easy to secure a good placement opportunity.

Course Highlights:

  • This course is great for people who want to make their career in Process Safety Engineering or Technical Safety Engineering.
  • It is not true that students of this branch get positions like Safety Officer or Fire Officer after completing the degree. Students of this course get a little better technical jobs.
  • There are many cool small companies in the vicinity of Chennai, Pune, Bangalore, or NCR. These companies offer good technical jobs. Although the initial salary package may be less, you will have the opportunity to improve your career.
  • You can also opt for off-campus placements and apply to companies directly.

The above discussion should give you an idea about the Safety and Fire Engineering at CUSAT.

B.Tech in Safety and Fire Engineering, Cochin University Of Science and Technology

SOE CUSAT placements are good for BTech in Fire and Safety. Almost every student from the branch gets placed with decent salary packages. The highest CTC offered this year to the student of this branch is around INR 12 LPA and the lowest CTC offered is INR 4 LPA. Companies such as Think Gas, Reliance, L&T, Essar Steel, and a few PSUs visit the campus placements of the CUSAT.

Which is good for fire and safety engineering, NFSC Nagpur or CUSAT?

VK

Studied Fire Safety Engineering, National Fire Service College, Nagpur (2020)

Both the institutes are government institutes and provide best in class education when it comes to Fire and safety engineering. They offer good placement opportunities in government and private organizations with good packages. However, NFSC Nagpur might be the choice to go due to the following reasons.

CUSAT:

Let’s discuss CUSAT first.

  • The institute offers both fire and safety which includes more topics related to engineering courses which are very useful from a placements perspective.
  • CUSAT is both AICTE and NBA accredited so has a good curriculum.
  • One of the downsides is that in CUSAT fire drills do not take place regularly which is required by some companies during the placement process.
  • Even though it is a very famous college in South India and has a good placement record, the infrastructure is a bit old compared to NFSC Nagpur.
  • The competition here for the Fire and Safety course is more and you need to have a good rank in the CUSATCAT.

NFSC Nagpur:

  • NFSC Nagpur has a course curriculum that is in line with the world’s top institutes with more focus given to physical standards and course syllabus.
  • The institute focuses more on the fire drill process and physical fitness along with the academic part.
  • It is a central government institute and provides the best placements for its students. The institute's alumni hold top positions in top fire organizations in India. The value of fire engineering here matches the IIT tag when it comes to fire engineering.
  • It is very much necessary to have proper time management to align yourself with daily routines. All the hard work you put in will be reaped as many top companies including PSU’s come for recruitment here.
  • BE in Fire course is a newly added one in this institute and competition is a bit less. The first few batches have passed with flying colors and have good placement records with the average package being around 10 LPA.

Considering all the facts above it is safe to say that NFSC Nagpur is the best option of the two. It is a central Govt. college under the Ministry of Home Affairs and has a rich alumni network in major public and private organizations.

How good are the placements for a B.Tech in safety and fire engineering at CUSAT?

SR

B.Tech Safety and Fire Engineering, School of Engineering, Cochin University of Science and Technology (2019)

I have a few friends at CUSAT, so I think I can give you an idea about the placement opportunities available for their Fire and Safety department.

Fire and Safety Engineering can be quite challenging. If you are serious about your studies and put in the required effort you will definitely have enough opportunities at the time of placements. But if you are not that serious about academics and end up having backlogs the faculty will not help you during placements.

If you are sincere you can get packages similar to the ones offered at reputed IITs and NITs. Here is a brief highlight of the recent placement statistics for the branch.

  • Highest CTC - 14 lakhs
  • Major recruiters - BPCL, IOCL, JSW, etc.

Also, it is worth mentioning that CUSAT is NBA Tier - 1 accredited. Other than CUSAT, only IITs and NITs have NBA accreditation. So, CUSAT is definitely a worthy choice for a B.Tech in Fire and Safety Engineering.

Which branch should I opt from the CUSAT, mechanical engineering or safety and fire engineering?

PS
Praduman Singh Posted On : July 20th, 2021
B.Tech in Safety & Fire Engg from Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2020)

It depends where your interest lies. But if you think according to the placement opportunities, safety, and fire engineering is much more preferred due to the high demand in the industry. The faculty is also well-qualified along with the quality education that the college provides. But safety and fire engineering deal with a lot of safety responsibilities so, if you are opting for this branch be prepared for that.

However, if you don’t want to be confined in one specific area then go for Mechanical. As it is a core branch, you can get many specializations later.

So, choose a branch according to your interest.

  • But this field is limited to getting a job, as most of the companies recruiting on-campus look for other colleges.
  • The competition will be less as very few colleges offer this kind of branch.
  • CUSAT is the best fire and safety branch in India.
