MBA at St. Xaviers University (2018)

I know a few people from the institute so I know a little bit about the institute. St. Xavier's University is not a good university for business management courses and the placements here are not very good.

  • For the academic year 2020, companies like Deloitte, EY came here for placements but the package offered is very less with an average package of around 3.5 - 4.2 LPA. And the roles for which the students are hired are not even required MBA specialization.
  • The placement officer at the institute is not very cooperative. The management also told the students who were opting for HR that there won't be enough jobs available and they won't be responsible for it.
  • The MBA students have to appear for interviews with the same group of B.Com, Eco Hons, Eco M.A, BMS students instead of paying higher fees of almost three times and the hostel fees which are compulsory too. The course cost around 14 lakhs.

Instead of joining St. Xavier's University with such high fees and poor academics and placements, it is better to choose any other business school with good placements.

St. Xavier’s College Kolkata is one of the most popular colleges in the country. It is an old college with a strict and disciplined curriculum. The college has a proven track record of offering excellent academics and co-curricular.

St. Xavier’s University is a new university and is still in the early stages of development. It won’t be fair to compare the two institutions at this stage.

MBA at St. Xaviers University (2018)

St. Xavier's University and St. Xavier's College, Kolkata are both reputable institutes offering top-quality higher education. However, the nature of institutions is very different and they offer different programs also.

  • St. Xavier's College, Kolkata is a college affiliated to the University of Calcutta, and it offers UG and PG courses in various disciplines, including commerce.
  • St. Xavier's University on the other hand is a private university located in Kolkata, West Bengal. The University offers UG, PG, and doctoral courses in different disciplines such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Law, and Education.

The BCom program offered by both institutes is similar in terms of curriculum, but St. Xavier's University offers more advanced and specialized courses. The right program for you depends on your priorities and what you are looking for in a B.Com (Hons.) program. If you are looking for a program that focuses on advanced, specialized courses, then St. Xavier's University may be a better choice for you. But if you are looking for a more old-school and general program, then St. Xavier's College, Kolkata may be a better choice.

If you are considering pursuing a degree in Economics, it is recommended that you do not prioritize Xavier's Kolkata.

  • You'd be better off starting at one of the top ten colleges in Delhi or one of the top five in Mumbai.
  • Kolkata lacks the atmosphere and opportunities that economics graduates require both during and after graduation.
  • In contrast, Delhi has a great environment (coaching and guidance for higher studies in eco) and opportunities (training and internships) for eco graduates.
  • The Finance Industry in Mumbai will be very helpful (and much needed) in obtaining internships, part-time jobs, or any other type of practical training.
  • Calcutta is devoid of all of these.
  • Also, Mathematics is mandatory in order to be admitted to B.A. (Eco) at St. Xavier's Kolkata.

If you are not applying through any quotas (such as Christian, SC/ST, or from schools affiliated with Xavier's), you will need at least 96 percent in class 12th. Despite the fact that it appears in subsequent lists, it goes down by 1%–2%.
