If you are confused about the stream, let me give you a clear idea.

  • In the first year, the students get to know all subjects.
  • They get an opportunity to interact with their seniors from other streams.
  • Eventually, they can opt for the B.E. degree after the first year ends.
  • The most difficult to get is Computer Science as the student is required to maintain a CGPA of 8+ in their first year.

Pros of choosing BITS:

  • Of the three options, BITS Pilani is considered to be the most reputed.
  • Foreign Universities recognize BITS, IITs and some NITs. This will gives you a slightly better chance of getting an MS to admit.
  • The network of BITS alumni is very strong. You can easily get referrals from the top firms for jobs as well as internships.

Cons

  • If you want to opt for Chemical Engineering as your B.E. degree, a CGPA of 5 will be enough but if you want to opt for subjects like Computer Science, you will have to acquire an 8+ CGPA.

Therefore, going for BITS Pilani is concluded as the best choice. One should not decide in haste.

Which is the better choice for CSE, BITS Goa or IIITD?

B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (2021)

Both the campuses BITS Goa and IIIT Delhi are of equal importance, it depends upon where you live. The academic curriculum, faculty, different clubs, internships, coding culture, and whatnot are some of the opportunities provided in both colleges. There is no problem in finding internships during the BTech program as the college provides the same.

BITS Goa has more activities than IIIT Delhi. It will help you expose to many different things and enjoy your life and studies as well. So I can say that it is your personal choice to opt for the particular campus after thinking about your desires.

Thus, we can conclude that identify your preference keeping in mind the various pros and cons of the college, along with the desires of your college life, then only opt for the particular campus, BITS Goa or IIT Delhi.

What are the cultural differences between BITS Goa and BITS Hyderabad?

SR
Swarupa Roy Posted On : December 26th, 2023
BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus

I am currently studying at BITS Hyderabad, and a friend of mine completed his studies from BITS Goa recently. So I can give you a clear picture of the cultural differences between the two campuses-

  1. Crowd- Around 10-20% of the BITS Hyderabad crowd consists of local Hyderabad people. So, many hostelites travel back to their homes during the weekend. This has a negative effect on the extracurricular front. But otherwise, the peers and even seniors are really helpful and interactive. As for BITS Goa, it has a more diverse crowd, and its fests and events are more fun.
  2. Connectivity- The Hyderabad campus is much like the Pilani one in this respect because the main city is 1 to 2 hours away. The Goa campus is located in the main city, and Goa being a small state, you can easily access the airport and other facilities from the college.
  3. Administration- The BITS Goa administration is much more strict, and students are regularly checked for alcohol, etc. On the other hand, the BITS Hyderabad administration is much more relaxed in comparison.
  4. Campus- The Hyderabad campus is bigger and has more students ( the Goa campus does not have Civil and Pharmacy departments). The hostel rooms at Hyderabad are slightly more spacious, and the campus library is impressively well-built. The campus contains a rock garden, which is really beautiful. So in terms of campus and infrastructure, Hyderabad is a winner.
  5. Dual Degree- In a dual degree program, if your scores are extremely low, you might end up in Civil or Pharmacy at BITS Hyderabad, and Chemical at BITS Goa.

This is all the important information about the cultural differences between the two campuses. You can choose either of them for your studies based on what suits your personal preferences.

How many students get above 9 CGPA in BITS Goa?

AK
Avinash Kanrar Posted On : August 3rd, 2021
Completed M.Sc Mathematics & Computer Science Engineering, BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus

Out of about 620 students, only 15-20 students get a CGPA higher than 9, every semester. As tough as it is to get such a CGPA, it is equally tough to maintain such a CGPA. It is not impossible, though.

  • To achieve and maintain such a CGPA, it is important for you to be up to date with your academics. You should also attend your classes regularly.
  • Staying in touch with your academics and maintaining a regular attendance will help you get to an admirable CGPA but achieving a CGPA that is higher than 9 will take some hard work.

The seniors are very supportive and they would be happy to help you in achieving the said CGPA.

What should be my preference for the following colleges if I have no specific branch in mind: new IITs, old IITs, BITS Pilani, BITS Goa, BITS Hyderabad, BIT Mesra, BIT Sindri, local NIT, VIT, Shibpur,

It is difficult to give an appropriate solution if you are not opting for a specific branch. All the colleges you have mentioned are well-reputed institutes in India that offer quality education and placement support to their students. The comparison can only be made based on the branches. Some institutes, like IITs, are good at CSE, while others have efficient departments in mechanical or Electrical Engineering. The ranking and placement vary every year.

If you get a chance to pick BITS Goa in mechanical engineering and BITS Pilani in Civil Engineering, then opt for Mechanical engineering, which opens up more opportunities and placement support than civil engineering.

Is NIT Suratkal better than BITS Goa?

When it comes to choosing between two good institutes, it can be a tough decision to make. However, there are certain factors that you need to consider in order to make an informed decision.

  • Consider your paying capacity as both institutes have a high fee structure
  • Evaluate your branch of preference as both offer a wide range of courses but may not have the same specializations
  • Your state of domicile can also play a role in your decision-making process, as you may be eligible for state quotas
  • Assess your way of living and comfort level with the environment, as IIIT Allahabad is located in a small town and BITS Goa is located in a coastal town with a vibrant atmosphere.

Ultimately, the decision to choose between IIIT Allahabad and BITS Goa should be based on your individual preferences and priorities. You need to carefully consider all the factors mentioned above and choose the institute that aligns with your career aspirations and personal goals.

Which is the best option: CSE at IIIT Delhi, dual (economics) at BITS Goa/Hyderabad, or information technology at NIT Suratkal?

YS
Yukti Sharma Posted On : August 23rd, 2021
Studied at BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus

The answer to this question depends on how you can cope with zealous competition after joining college. If you are confident that you can join the brawl and top in your first year, I would highly recommend taking MSc in Economics at BITS Goa Pilani.

Pros
  • BITS Pilani has been ranked among top 30 institutes in NIRF Ranking 2020.
  • In your 2nd year, you can choose a B.E. course according to your first year CGPA, including the highly coveted CSE program.
Cons
  • You'll have to spend one more year as compared to your B.E. colleagues.
  • Getting your desired course can be a real disadvantage, seeing that there is no dearth of distractions on campus.

If you do not want to take a risk, choosing IT at NIT Surathkal is the best option for you. Since the syllabus almost corresponds to that of CSE and the infrastructure is mind-blowing at the campus.

Do dualites at the BITS Pilani Goa campus study really hard in their first year?

SK

Studied Mechanical Engineering at BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus

It depends on your branch. In general, dual degree courses are more demanding. So, students of dual degree programs need to put in more effort to score good CGPA compared to other programs. CS dual degree of BITS Pilani is extremely demanding and you need to work hard to earn a decent CGPA. The coursework for other dual degree programs is comparably easier.

Is the M.Sc (Economics) + B.E. (Hons.) dual-degree from BITS Goa a better option than CSE from NIT Surathkal?

SG
Shubham Ghose Posted On : May 24th, 2021
M.Sc Economics, NIT Surathkal (2019)

I have a friend who completed a dual degree in Economics from BITS Goa and he vouches for the course. Economics in BITS Goa is actually a brilliant department. Also, if you wish to do an MBA in the future an economics degree can prove to be very useful. Apart from this the Economics department also has some brilliant professors and they offer some very good electives like Security Analysis and Portfolio Management and Financial Management.

Now, here are a few cons regarding both colleges.

BITS Goa:

  • Coursework is not easy and the grading is quite harsh. BITS has absolutely NO reservation. Everyone gets in through merit. NITK on the other hand has a 50% reservation. Therefore, competition is quite fierce in BITS.
  • If you screw up your 1st year and you may end up with a branch you don’t like.
  • Although you get 2 degrees in 5 years, you have to work extra hard.
  • The fee is quite high. BITS are not funded and student fees are their only source of income, unlike the NITs which are heavily funded and can afford to charge nominal fees.

NIT Surathkal:

  • Peer quality is much lower than BITS. 50% of the students get in through reservation.
  • While applying abroad for graduate school, BITS definitely has an edge over NIT, and no matter what people say universities abroad don't differentiate among different campuses of BITS.
  • The flexibility offered in the BITS curriculum is far higher than whatever is there in the NIT curriculum.

It often is the case that students of 12th standard are clueless about their field of interest after finishing their studies. Being in a dual program, you get an extra year to decide on your field(subject) of interest
