IIEST Shibpur:
Jadavpur University:
Considering all the factors, Jadavpur University has more value of money, placement rate, and rankings. IIEST Shibpur is good but lacks behind in every aspect of JU.
IIEST Shibpur now enjoys the status of being an "Institute of National Importance" status with 160 years of Glorious Record of Producing "World Leaders in Engineering" and is nowhere near colleges like BIT Mesra and NIT Rourkela. The primary purpose behind the establishment of this institute was to combine IIT and IISc into a single body. It receives a high budget at par with most IITs and is a great choice for engineering aspirants.
The institute has successful alumni working in various fields across the globe. Some of them include Dr. Bimal K Bose USA World Leader in Power Electronics, Dr. Fazlur Rahman Khan World's Greatest Structural Engineer Designer of the Tallest Tower in the USA, and Dr. Kajal Gupta Chief Technologist NASA USA. The institutes connect spreads across the globe and IIEST Shibpur has Chapters in the USA, London UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Europe, the Middle East, etc.
Even if IIEST is comparable to BIT Mesra and NIT Rourkela today, it will be way ahead of these institutes in the new future given its fast-paced development.
JU is the best option among IIIT Delhi and IIEST for CSE. Although JU is way better than IIEST in CSE placements, it is slightly behind IIIT Delhi. IIIT-D has slightly better CSE placements. But JU offers an excellent ROI which makes it the most favourable option among these colleges. Moreover, its faculty is highly experienced and learned with many Ph.D. holders in just a single department. Here are some other reasons why you should consider joining JU
All these points sum up the fact that JU is an excellent choice for a CSE degree.
Mechanical is one of the oldest departments of IIEST Shibpur. It is well known for its internship and placement records.
A good number of mechanical students grab core jobs during the placement season. Last year, 61 out of 75 eligible students were successfully placed from B.Tech mechanical.
Some of the core companies that offer placements to mechanical students from this college are- Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Steel, Tata Bluescope Steel, Tata Metaliks, Coal India Ltd, Reliance Defence, Otis Elevator Company, Vedanta, Voltas, CESC, India Power and IFB.
Apart from this, those who opt for higher studies perform really well in their GATE exams. Some students from the mechanical department are pursuing their MS in foreign universities.
Thus, the department is performing decently well in terms of placements.
With regards to educational standards and latest equipped technologies, Indian institutes have always had an upper hand considering greater popularity and a higher amount of funding from the central government.
IIEST Shibpur is the second oldest engineering college in India and backs a ranking of 19 by NIRF among engineering institutes. NIT Durgapur on the other hand is ranked 47 by NIRF for Engineering in the year 2020.
IIEST Shibpur has a research-based approach towards the BTech program in CST as compared to NIT Durgapur which has a much more theoretical and practical approach.
Let us have a look at the main points of differences between the two colleges mentioned that will help you narrow down a decision.

In 2019 the closing cutoff for CST at IIEST Shibpur was 9379.
In 2019 the closing cutoff for CSE at NIT Durgapur was 17031.

Go through the given points in mind and make a well-informed decision in terms of admissions accordingly.
The answer is definitely yes as the Indian Institute of Engineering and technology is more than 60 years older than Harcourt Butler University. Both the colleges have rich heritage and have contributed immensely to the development of information technology in India.
The prominent factors which make IIEST better than HBTU are :

HBTU offers a higher package but the number of individuals getting that package is very less. Also, the average package is less as compared to IIEST. It also attracts more core recruiters than HBTU.
IIEST, therefore, makes a way ahead of HBTU due to various reasons but the choice can be easily influenced by other unmentioned factors like location, fee range, and scores in the competing examination.
According to some of my friends who stayed in hostels, it is amazing. A diverse culture is experienced here. You make bonds for a lifetime. From preparing for exams one night before to discussing various miscellaneous topics to roaming in college to going for night outs, all the things are enjoyed by the students thoroughly. Also, the campus is filled with greenery that provides hostellers an edge to feel the freshness of nature.
If you join IIEST along with the hostel, you live your life creating many unforgettable memories that you can cherish forever.
But we can say that the hostel life at IIEST prepares you for all the real-life challenging situations in your future ahead. So if you want to be an IIESTian, get ready for the exciting days that you have in your college.
Reunion and Bengal Engineering College Annuals is an annual cultural fest of IIEST Shibpur. It is in general the oldest cultural fest in the entire country. These are those 4 days that every individual looks forward to in their educational career. It was held for the 82nd time in 2019.
The detailed highlights of the fest are as follows:
The fest holds various events for musicians/events. It also consists of seminars, alumni business meet, band competition, group dance face off and literary competitions. It is basically a symbol of ULLASSSS. It is basically an event inviting a set of memories for the coming life ahead. It presents a blissful event that will always be kept as a memoir.
IT at IIEST Shibpur can be good but you need to utilize the opportunities you get properly. The infrastructure at the institute is good. Microsoft also recruits students from campus placements. In the past students have bagged good internship opportunities. One of the students was accepted for Google California (Internship). Compared to the CSE, the IT branch is a little behind in terms of salary packages offered. However, this branch has good diversity.
Faculties for CSE and IT branches are comparable and the IT department even has better faculty members for a few of the subjects. The main difference between CSE and IT is that IT is a sandwich branch of CST and Electronics. So, naturally, you will need to study some Electronics subjects too. For Communication Systems, the IT branch does not have decent faculties. Adding to that, the subject is also not that useful for the future. Despite that this subject eats a chunk of the time of IT students.
Another difference is CST introduces important subjects like algorithms in the 2nd year itself. Whereas, IT introduces these topics one year later.
Basically, the essence is the same for the two branches, there are some minor differences in curriculum and lab work. How you do in placements depends on your hard work.
