UGC Grants Category I Deemed to be University Status to Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology

New Delhi: As per the latest updates, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has awarded category 1 status of deemed to be university to Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in accordance with the provisions of the UGC Regulations, 2018.

In addition to this, the Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology has also been ranked in 51st position by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 and ranked among the top 100 Universities for eight consecutive years.

With this category 1 status, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology can offer new courses and departments without the UGC's approval. The institute was established as a deemed university 23 years ago, in 2000 with the aim to attain excellence in education and research through effective collaboration.

The Institute offers various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral Programs in the fields of Engineering, Architecture, Dental, Arts, Commerce, and Science. Admission to courses like BTech, BE, BArch and BDes are done on the basis of Sathyabama All-India Entrance Exam (SAEEE).

About UGC Deemed to be University Status

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grants category 1 status of deemed to be a university to institutes with a 3.51 or above score. 

In addition to this, the deemed to be university status is awarded to educational institutions that have obtained a corresponding accreditation grade/score from a reputable accrediting organisation accredited by the UGC or are placed among the top 500 of reputable international rankings, such as Times Higher Education or QS World Ranking.
