New Delhi: The School of Post Graduate Studies at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) had collaborated to organise 'Agri PitchFest 2023' on December 20, 2023. It was a one-day innovation competition on food and agriculture.

Supported by the E-YUVA center within TNAU's plant biotechnology department, the event aimed to equip participants with problem-solving skills pertinent to current food and agriculture challenges while immersing them in the startup landscape.

A thirty student team from TNAU and its affiliated colleges presented solutions addressing the competition's identified issues. After covering rigorous preliminary levels, 12 teams advanced to the final round.

The innovation concepts spanned various areas, from functional foods derived from coconut milk to eco-friendly soil nutrient management and inventive methods for quality food grain storage. Three outstanding ideas named 'Rehumane,' 'Molecular Maestros,' and 'Biomilk Pack Innovators' clinched cash prizes of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000, and Rs 2,000, respectively.

The top positions were secured by AC and RI, Madurai campus (first place), AC and RI, Coimbatore campus (second place), and AEC and RI, Coimbatore (third place).

Director N Senthil of TNAU's Center for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology


During the inaugural address, Director N Senthil of TNAU's Center for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology stressed the societal significance of entrepreneurship and encouraged budding talents to innovate.

TNAU's E-YUVA center supports students at different academic levels in validating their ideas fostering an entrepreneurial spirit. In a special address, Executive Director Senthil Ramesh Subramaniam of Grenera Nutrients (P) Ltd, Erode, highlighted key aspects for aspiring entrepreneurs. He emphasized the need for novel ideas that solve market challenges, securing initial funding from banks or angel investors and seeking investment for product visibility and popularity.
