Panjab University’s 70th Convocation Held

New Delhi: The Panjab University inaugurated its 70th convocation on May 20, 2023 where 244 students were awarded with 244 gold medals. Panjab University (PU) chancellor and vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar has stated that the institution has the potential to rank among the best in the nation. "Various Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Chief Justices of India were products of this university", Dhankhar remarked in his speech at PU's annual convocation. It conveys a strong message about the calibre of this university's offerings. I believe the university has more potential.

When compared to some of the other private institutions in the area, PU's rankings have fallen since the appointment of the Vice President. PU was ranked in the 801–1,000 range in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, trailing numerous private institutions in the area. The university also declined in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2022 published by the Union Ministry of Education.

When the country commemorated the 100th anniversary of its independence in 2047, Dhankhar urged students to "take advantage of opportunities and script the blueprint for a "New India". "When many members of the elder generation are no longer around, it will be the youthful generation that leads the nation forward and you should be pleased to be an Indian.

He claimed that India had a technological advantage, and that the use of mobile internet and online payments has reduced the digital gap. In explaining how education was a vehicle for social empowerment, Dhankhar gave his own example, saying, "How if he hadn't received a scholarship, he may have ended up elsewhere in life." Dhankhar urged the youngsters to have courage and self-assurance.

He added, "Be bold, be creative, be innovative, be confident, dream big, and work hard." "No one has accomplished great heights and brought about changes in society without failure," he remarked. Students were applauded, and he added a polite comment that said academic success wasn't everything. Everyone has failed at some point, so kids shouldn't be afraid to try, he remarked before concluding with the well-known line from the Sholay movie, "Jo dar gaya, so mar gaya," to the audience's cheers.
