New Delhi: NMIMS Mumbai has joined hands with Virginia Tech University to offer a joint dual degree in Economics to provide students with a broad understanding of the economics sector. Interested candidates can apply for the admission process on the official website at nmims.edu.

Under this collaboration, interested and eligible candidates will have the opportunity to study one year of their course at the NMIMS campus and another year at Virginia Tech University, resulting in an MSc in Economics from NMIMS and MA in Economics degree from Virginia Tech.

This joint dual degree program is India's first-of-its-kind program with Virginia Tech. Through this course, participants will have an understanding of another culture in relation to economy, politics and practices. They will also examine and analyze different economic issues as a part of the curriculum.

Selection of applicants for admission will be based on marks secured in the admission test and personal interview conducted by NMIMS and Virginia Tech. To be eligible for a second year at Virginia Tech, applicants need to have a minimum CGPA of 3 on a scale of 4 in the first year. 

Informing about this initiative, the official website reads, "The two-year dual degree program offers a unique opportunity to get a deep understanding of economics while simultaneously improving your analytical skills”.

“This program is intended to match the industry's new-age expectations in fields such as big data Economics, computational finance, business forecasting, and behavioural economics. After successfully completing both years, the student will get two degrees: M.Sc. Economics from NMIMS and MA Economics from Virginia Tech University”, the website reads.

During the first year at NMIMS, candidates will learn foundation courses such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics and International Economics, which will hold a total of 40 credits (8 courses + Research, 5 per Semester).

In the second year at VT, they will choose from various courses. A maximum of two courses can be drawn from the list of upper-level undergraduate courses (Course numbers that begin with 4000) and the minimum credit will be 18 credits (6 courses, three per semester) at VT.

“The MA program in Economics at Virginia Tech has the distinction of being housed in the College of Science. It is anticipated that this program will be certified as a STEM program providing students with an Optional practical training of 3 years", the official website reads.
