New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited will fund INR 42.69 crores to NIT Rourkela as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. NIT Rourkela will apply these funds to construct a 500-seater girls’ hostel. 

Informing about this initiative, NIT Rourkela stated that “Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has agreed to provide financial assistance of INR 42.69 Crores to NIT Rourkela under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative”.

“The sanctioned funds will be used to build a 500-seater girls' hostel on the Institute premises”, the official post further added. NIT Rourkela and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited are going to sign an agreement in this regard soon.

The institute shared that it has collaborated with the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) to build a higher infrastructure on its campus at an estimated cost of INR 165.81 crore. 

Professor K Umamaheshwar Rao, Director of NIT Rourkela and Professor Rohan Dhiman, Registrar of NIT Rourkela, met the HEFA officials in Bengaluru and discussed the blueprints of the sanctioned funds to be issued under window-1 of HEFA.

The NIT Rourkela’s official post further stated that, under this agreement, the institute aims to construct hostels for students, housing for faculties, and setting up a sewage treatment plant to achieve net-zero waste.
