NEET UG 2024 City Wise Results Show 3.5% Students with Over 600 Marks

New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the city-wise and centre-wise results of NEET-UG 2024 on the official NTA website on July 20, 2024. As per the result data, Rajasthan leads with 482 students scoring above 700 marks, followed by Maharashtra with 205, Kerala with 194, and Uttar Pradesh with 184 students.

The NEET-UG 2024 results showed 3.5% of students scoring 600+ marks this year. Over 100 centers out of 4,750 had more than three times the share of high-scoring candidates compared to the national average. More than half of these centers are in Sikar (44) and Kota (16), coaching hubs in Rajasthan.

The results analysis by IIT-Madras indicated no abnormality in suggesting large-scale malpractice. Overall, this year saw an increase in the number of high-scoring candidates due to a reduction in the syllabus. The Supreme Court will soon make further decisions based on the ongoing investigations and the next hearing is scheduled on July 22, 2024.

Centres Under Scrutiny

Several centers are under investigation for paper leak complaints. The highest score was 678 at Gujarat's Jay Jalaram International School in Godhra and 600 at Jay Jalaram School in Dahod. At Hardayal Public School in Haryana's Jhajjar, only 10 students scored above 600, which earlier awarded grace marks to the students. The investigation revealed that paper seals were broken, and question papers were distributed a day before the exam for significant bribes.

NEET UG 2024 Paper Leak Matter in Supreme Court

The Supreme Court will hear multiple petitions regarding irregularities in NEET-UG 2024. The court mandated that the results must be released with the candidates' identities masked to ensure that candidates from compromised centers scored higher than those from other centers.

The court will continue hearing arguments on July 22, 2024, regarding petitions for the exam's cancellation, a re-test, and a court investigation into the malpractice allegations.

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud stated, "No…let it be done. We have to see the end of the matter by Monday," and scheduled the next hearing for July 22. He explained that the detailed inquiry was necessary because there was a confirmed leak in Patna and Hazaribagh, where question papers had been distributed before the exam. The Bench needed to determine if the leak was limited to these two centres or more widespread.
