Professor Arvind Sahay has been appointed as the director of the Management Development Institute of Gurgaon (MDI Gurgaon). Before joining MDI Gurgaon, Sahay worked as a marketing professor at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A).

New Delhi: MDI Gurgaon has recruited Professor Arvind Sahay as its new Director. Professor Sahay was a Professor of Marketing at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) before joining MDI Gurgaon. 

Professor Sahay, well-known to a new generation of students and managers, has made important contributions to IIM Ahmedabad as a teacher, researcher, consultant, and administrator. 

Before joining MDI Gurgaon, he was the Founding Chairperson of the NSE Centre for Behavioural Sciences and the Chairperson of the India Gold Policy Centre at IIM Ahmedabad.

Given Prof. Sahay's reputation in marketing academia and his leadership role at IIM-A, the appointment represents a significant step forward for MDI on its path to excellence. 

His work is built on a solid educational basis, with a PhD in Marketing Strategy and International Business attained between 1992 and 1996 from The University of Texas at Austin. 

From 1987 to 1989, he pursued a PGDM with a specialisation on Marketing and Finance at IIM, Ahmedabad. From 1982 to 1986, Prof. Sahay earned a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur.

This trinity of qualifications, substantial research, teaching, and industry engagement, as well as his boardroom experience at London Business School and IIM Ahmedabad, constitute the foundation of his marketing and business knowledge and skills.

Professor Sahay has made numerous contributions to academics. He has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals, written more than 60 cases, and has been an outstanding teacher in addition to holding leadership positions at IIM Ahmedabad faculty, including Dean of Alumni & External Relations (2013-16), Chairperson of PGPX (2007-09), Chairperson of Executive Education (2017-19), and Chairperson of the Marketing Area (2019-2021). He has also collaborated with businesses in India, Southeast Asia, and the United Kingdom. His most recent research focuses on behavioral science applications in business.

Professor Sahay believes that "the right kind of intervention in a choice architecture helps to achieve the right kind of behavioral change required for desired outcomes - whether it is amplifying the efficiency of the sales team, creating a brand that engages better with the customer, getting the creative team to adopt out-of-the-box thinking, or achieving a behavioral change that alters team dynamics - all of which lead to improved performance."

He is a pioneer in teaching and exploring neuroscience applications in marketing and business in India. He has also worked for prominent corporations in the uses of neuroscience in advertising (metrics, testing), branding (customer insight and brand positioning tests), and HR (employee engagement) as the founding chairperson of the Centre for Behavioural Science at IIMA. 

His most recent study has concentrated on a variety of topics, including price, neuroscience, brand management, gold policy, FOPL, blockchain, and innovation. Professor Sahay's second book, "Brands and the Brain," was published in March 2022.
