The Education Ministry has appointed the chief executive officer and managing director of L&T SN Subrahmanyan as the chairperson of the board of governors (BoG) of the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (NIT-R), in Odisha. Read details here!

New Delhi: The Education Ministry has appointed Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of L&T SN Subrahmanyan as the regular honorary chairperson of the Board of Governors (BoG) of National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (NIT-R), in Odisha.

Dr. Subrahmanyan's appointment is a testament to his extensive experience and outstanding contributions to the education sector. His impressive background and expertise make him an ideal choice to lead the BoG at NIT Rourkela, one of India's premier technical institutions.

Subrahmanyan's appointment took effect on August 25, 2023, after President Droupadi Murmu, the Visitor of NIT-R, nominated him for a three-year term, according to a ministry order received by the institute.

He is also the Vice Chairman of LTIMindtree and L&T Technology Services, the Chairman of L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited, and the Director and Chairperson of L&T Finance Holdings Ltd. 

Prior to taking over as CEO & MD in July 2017, Subrahmanyan guided L&T's infrastructure business to its position as the country's largest construction company and the 14th largest in the world. He is placed eighth in the 2022 Construction Week Power 100 Ranking.

Dr. Subrahmanyan will be charged with giving strategic direction and guidance to the institute as Chairperson of the Board of Governors. This includes monitoring the institution's academic programmes, research activities, infrastructure development, and other critical components of its growth and development.

NIT Rourkela is expected to continue its journey towards excellence in technical education and research under his leadership. Dr. Subrahmanyan's vision and commitment to academic achievement. He is expected to greatly contribute to the institute's aim of developing future engineers and technocrats who will play critical roles in India's technological growth.

The Union Ministry of Labour & Employment nominated him as the Chairman of the National Safety Council (NSC) for three years in February 2021. He is also one of the nine founding members of the Climate Finance Leadership Initiative (CFLI) India, which aims to give the initiative global scope and influence.

The National Institute of Technology, Rourkela director has also served as the BoG chairperson since the position became vacant in June 2020 following the departure of another corporate executive, Santrupta B Misra.
