New Delhi: As per the latest update, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose appointed Buddhadeb Sau as the acting vice-chancellor of Jadavpur University. The appointment comes after the university received criticism over the death of a first-year student.
Buddhadeb Sau is a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Jadavpur University. As per the officials, Bose appointed the Acting VC and issued orders empowering Sau to exercise powers and perform the duties of Vice-Chancellor with immediate effect.
Jadavpur University has been without a full-time vice-chancellor since June 2023 and It's in the middle of a storm due to the death of a student at its hostel, supposedly after being allegedly ragged and sexually harassed.
As per the reports, a first-year student of Jadavpur University passed away on August 9, 2023. He fell from a balcony on the second floor of the main hostel at the university. The family of the student said they believe the student was hurt because of ragging.
The previous full-time Vice Chancellor, Suranjan Das finished his tenure there after nine years on May 31, 2023. After that, Bose appointed Amitabha Datta, who was the next officer in charge at the university to be the acting Vice-Chancellor.
