IIM Kashipur Concludes Scholars’ Conclave; Best Research Paper Awarded to DTU, MNNIT Allahabad & IIT Kanpur

IIM Kashipur has completed the 4th edition of its renowned Management Education and Research Colloquium (MERC), the biggest scholars' event in North India. The conference concluded with awarding the top three research papers.

IIM Kashipur Concludes Scholars’ Conclave

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur has successfully concluded the 4th edition of the most prominent scholars’ conclave in North Delhi, the Management Education and Research Colloquium (MERC), with the announcement of the top three research papers. 

MERC, pioneered by IIM Kashipur, fosters a vibrant platform for scholars across the country to share groundbreaking research, ideas, and collaborations in the field of management education and research.

After a thorough selection process, 300 out of the total 720 research papers received for the 2024 edition of MERC, were shortlisted. Notably, 50% of the participants were female. The jury selected three outstanding papers from this pool of submissions after evaluation. 

Outstanding Papers and Recognition

The Best Paper Award was received by Shreya Srivastava, affiliated with Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) Allahabad, for her paper titled "Artificial intelligence: From Activation to Assimilation: Schema Equilibration in Consumer-AI Interaction via Voice comprising Social and Emotional Cues" in the Marketing category.

The Second Best Paper was titled "From Abundance to Scarcity: An Experimental Study of Financially Constrained Newsvendor" in the Operations and Decision Sciences category, by

Further, the Third Best Paper Award was conferred to Virender Kumar of Delhi Technological University for his paper titled "Domestic Monetary Policy and Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Deposits to India: An Empirical Analysis" in the Economics category.

Meanwhile, MERC Convenor Professor Somnath Chakrabarti, Dean (Academics), presented the awardees with certificates and monetary rewards of INR 25,000, INR 20,000, and INR 15,000. Professor Chakrabarti praised the scholars for their outstanding contributions to ethical research and highlighted the importance of their work.

Enriching Sessions and Collaborative Discussions

During the IIM Kashipur conclave, participants got involved in both online and offline sessions, workshops, and panel discussions led by industry experts from academia and industry. These sessions covered various topics such as research methodology, interdisciplinary research, climate change, and sustainability, providing valuable insights and fostering collaboration between academia and industry.

Dr Jai Advani, Managing Director at PwC Company, highlighted the evolving relationship between research and industry, pointing out the necessity for collaboration to address contemporary challenges. A renowned economist, Dr Anu B Gupta, shared invaluable advice on navigating the domains of research and industry, stressing the importance of risk, research, and remuneration.

The MERC Convenor and Chair of the Doctoral Programme, Dr. Sabyasachi Patra, expressed her delight with the 400% increase in paper submissions over the previous year. He shared how MERC fosters creativity, intellectual interaction, and the emergence of fresh concepts. 

The success of MERC 2024 serves as a reminder of how important teamwork and innovative research are to the advancement of management education and research. Platforms such as MERC are important in shaping the future of management research and practice as academia and industry continue to converge.
