New Delhi: Calcutta University has announced a new course curriculum and admission regulation for this current academic session. The curriculum has been designed in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). Calcutta University will offer 47 subjects for three-year multidisciplinary courses to students.

The university here emphasised the need for multidisciplinary learning, skill development, and flexible course structures that encourage students to pursue their interests and passions. Under the new Calcutta University course structure, students will get the option to exit the course after the second and fourth semesters and they can choose science subjects along with humanities.

"The BA/BSc program shall be for a minimum duration of six consecutive semesters with an exit option after second and fourth semesters," said the guideline released by Calcutta University. Calcutta University has created eight smaller multidisciplinary pools by incorporating subjects from various disciplines.

Under the new system, students will be able to choose three core subjects, ensuring that they select no more than one subject from each pool. In addition to this, students will have to take as many as 16 core courses from two subjects while taking eight from each core subject. They will need to study six courses in minor subjects under the new course curriculum.

As part of the curriculum, Calcutta University will have four common value-added courses, each carrying two credits. Meanwhile, the other colleges are also focusing on converting their existing three-year general courses to multidisciplinary ones.

At CU, students will be required to choose three interdisciplinary courses, one from each of the first three semesters, offered across various disciplines. And also need to study three skill enhancement courses, one from each of two core subjects and a minor subject.
