BHU Rolls Out 2 New Scholarships for Students Admitted to Chemistry Courses

New Delhi: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched two new scholarships for chemistry students. The university has launched the scholarships from the funding it received through the donation made by Mr. Madan Mohan Kayastha and his wife Mrs. Santosh Kayastha.

Mr and Mrs Kayastha have donated INR 10 lakh under the Pratidana Internship. Mr Kayastha is an alumnus of Banaras Hindu University and earned his M.Tech. in Industrial Chemistry in the year 1951.

The scholarships, named Sita Ram and Ajudhia Devi Scholarships, pay homage to the parents of Madan Mohan Kayastha. They will be awarded to one female student in the first year of BSc (Chemistry Hons) and one student in the first year of MSc (Chemistry).

Earlier, Mrs and Mr Kayastha had also donated INR 20 lakh in December last year to institute four scholarships of INR 5 lakh each, two for Chemistry and two for Law.

The Bhagwati and Mulk Raj Mahajan Scholarships were set up as a tribute to the parents of Santosh Kayastha (Mahajan). The scholarship was presented to a first-year female student of BA (LLB) Hons and a second-year student of the LLM programme.

Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain, BHU's Vice-Chancellor, appreciated the strong commitment and connection that BHU's alumni maintain with the university.

Banaras Hindu University is a globally acclaimed centre of education. It was founded in 1916 by freedom fighter Madan Mohan Malaviya, with collaborative efforts from influential figures such as Dr. Annie Besant, who envisioned it as the University of India. The Parliamentary legislation facilitated the establishment of Banaras Hindu University, BHU Act 1915. The university comprises five institutes, 16 faculties, and 135 departments.
