The Banaras Hindu University is all set to launch a new Post Graduate Course called ‘Kashi Studies’.

New Delhi: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has recently announced its plans to launch a postgraduate course focused on Kashi Studies. The course will equip students with the political, religious, and social history of Varanasi.

The proposed postgraduate course on Kashi Studies by BHU aims to delve deep into the various facets of this extraordinary city. The dean of Social Science faculty Professor Kaushal Kishore Mishra stated that the course will incorporated with the MA History program.

Aspirants who apply for this course will get an MA degree in History with a specialization in ‘Khasi Studies.’ The course will tentatively be approved in the upcoming academic council meeting. 

The curriculum will encompass all the angles of Varanasi‘s history, including temples, ghats, cultural festivals, Food, daily life, and political and social development. The course will also cover Varanasi’s role in India’s struggle for Independence.

Professor Mishra also added that the course is designed to serve the growing interest in Varanasi worldwide. He further said, "It is the inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's love for Varanasi that has taken the shape of a PG course in BHU.

In addition to this course BHU academic council approved several new courses such as Malviya Studies, Diaspora and Global Studies, History of Science and Science Policy, Asian Studies, and Archival Studies and Management.
