Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has cleared this out that there will not be any changes for the Five-Year BA LLB Course as it falls under special course category.

BHU Introduces 4-Year UG Program System with Honours, Research Options

New Delhi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced the implementation of a Four-Year Honours Program for both UG Honours and UG Honours and Research Courses form the academic session 2024-25.

The BHU academic council has approved the proposal about the National Education Policy 2020. As per the proposal, only 10 per cent of the total admitted students with a CGPA of 7.5 and above will be permitted to select UG honours with research. The selection of the candidates will be done based on merit. 

The programs will mainly focus on the overall growth of students into becoming responsible citizens. It also gives students flexibility in choice of minor courses from a large range of options.

It will groom them on how to use their university-level education for society and as well as in their professional life. 

Those getting selected for UG Honours with Research courses will get the opportunity to directly pursue for their PhD, without requiring a post-graduate degree. They will also have to write a dissertation in their final semester.

You will also have to take up credit courses on Multidisciplinary Courses, Skill Enhancement Courses, Ability Enhancement, Value Added Courses, as well as internships.

Five-Year BA LLB Course to Remain Unchanged

BHU has cleared this out that there will not be any changes for the Five-Year BA LLB Course as it falls under special course category. Along with this, skill enhancement professional programmes at South Campus and the courses running under specific categories will continue to be rolled in the old structure only. 

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain said that the above steps have been taken as part of the first phase of implementing the National Education Policy. He stressed on the ongoing internal discussions within faculties and departments to address challenges in the implementation of NEP 2020 in other areas.
