A total of 14 outstanding scholars from Banaras Hindu University have secured the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship, highlighting their academic prowess and research achievements.

BHU Excels with 14 Scholars Awarded Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship

New Delhi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced that a total of 14 candidates from the university have been chosen to receive the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship.

The recipients for the current PMRF cycle from the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) include Bandan Kumar, Aindabi Maitra, Kuhoo Madhav, R B Ananth, Raju Rai, and Sudipa Bhunia (Dept. of Geology); Deepika Sharma, Karmdeo Prajapati, Nikhil Srivastav, and Ritesh Tolani (Dept. of Chemistry); Ankita Gupta (Institute of Environment & Sustainable Development); Garima Kandwal (Dept. of Biochemistry); Prashasti Pandey (Dept. of Botany); and Syona Tiwari (Dept. of Bioinformatics).

All the selected scholars receive an attractive fellowship and a research contingency grant as part of the program. The fellowship amount is INR 70,000 per month for the initial two years, rising to INR 75,000 per month in the third year and further increasing to INR 80,000 per month for the fourth and fifth years.

Additionally, researchers under this fellowship are entitled to receive a research contingency grant of INR 2 lakh per annum. The selection process is highly rigorous and conducted at a national level to choose the candidates.

This initiative, accessible to a select few Central Universities, focuses on promoting top-notch research. Introduced in the 2018-2019 budget, its primary objective is to draw the finest talent into the research domain.

Expressing his delight, Vice-Chancellor Prof Sudhir Kumar Jain commented that the university has implemented several procedural and structural modifications to enhance BHU's presence in crucial schemes and fellowships. 

The rise in the number of PMRF recipients from BHU mirrors the university's proactive measures. The aim is to enhance the university's performance even more in the future, Kumar Jain added.
